The Ballyhoura region has so much to offer with the outstanding countryside, the wildlife, a huge range of outdoor activities; it is a perfect holiday destination. What could be better than comb

ining all these things with the chance to interact with some of our most majestic and awe inspiring creatures – Birds of Prey. Here, at Ballyhoura Falconry, we have probably one of the biggest collections of Raptors in Ireland, from the tiny Burrowing Owl, to the impressive Golden Eagle. You can spend a couple of hours with us, or if you are passionate about wildlife, as we are, you can spend the whole day. Falconry - practised since 2000bc is probably one of the earliest sports, the earliest recorded reference to training Birds of Prey in Ireland was in the 7th Century, but the arrival of the Anglo Normans finally secured falconry’s place here, albeit amongst the nobility. Here you can experience many unique opportunities to see, hold and even possibly fly these magnificent birds of prey. We, here at Ballyhoura Falconry are passionately committed to education, rehabilitation, and conservation of our native irish wildlife and the wellbeing of all the Birds and Animals here Why not treat yourself to a day in the wide outdoors, bringing you back to nature. One of our aims is to share with you the pleasure and excitement of falconry, and to impart some of the experiences we have had over the years handling, flying and rehabilitating these totally fascinating creatures. We have a range of activities that will enthral anyone, and suit young and old, so why not give us a call and book yourselves a day to remember. We can guarantee that you won’t go home disappointed.

We don't get very many Peregrine Falcon in , this fella is just the fourth we released in the last year .
He was dropped into a Veterinary in Kanturk Co. Cork in May after he was found on the road , it's unusual for Peregrine Falcons to get hit by cars they do most of their hunting much higher.
This guy had very bad concussion and a fracture to his left wing but luckily for him the fracture was in a good position.
He was a perfect patient for a few weeks but then the call of the wild came knocking and he was rearing to get going .
Mandy released him yesterday and I think it was her first release and the look on her face said it all , Brian was on video duty but his camera died , he later discovered it was just gone to sleep mode but at that point the Peregrine was probably home .
Thanks Helen for putting the video together, we didn't take any photos at the beginning because we didn't think he was going to make it and all we could do was make him comfortable. It feels great to be wrong from time to time

This is Serge , we were starting to worry about him because he wasn't as pristine as he should be . Birds spend most of their time preening and looking after their feathers and always look perfect, if they start getting scruffy it usually means something is not right . Serge was eating ok , not moving around as much as he used to and eventually we figured out what was up with him. We did a little homework and realised Serge came into us 13 years from a Sergeant in Henry St . Garda Station Limerick, he had his mature colours at the time so he would have been around 3 years old and that would make him nearly 16 and with an average of 5 or 6 years in the wild he has done well for himself. He is back in the sick shed now so we can keep an eye on him but we already miss him outside where he would threaten the dogs , wild Kestels and our own birds when we were flying them .
