Did you know bats are mammals and will not fly into your hair! Thank you to Albert Nolan from Bat Conservation Ireland who gave us a super talk on the Amazing World of Bats earlier this month! He allayed all our fears about these little creatures. Students from QQI Horticulture, Outdoor Sport & Recreation and Healthcare all joined in. Thanks Albert

The GRETB Letterfrack celebrated Green Day 2026 today in glorious sunshine in Connemara. We started off the day visiting Claddaghduff National School where they had their Swift Boxes, donated by the GRETB, hung on their school gable. Big thanks to Principal Laura and all the teachers and children for facilitating our visit, and Lynda Huxley from Swift Conservation Ireland for making it all happen. Looking forward to hearing about the swifts arrival in the future.
Back in the centre we were busy doing a litter and waste monitoring exercise - there were too many paper cups in the recycling bin! More improvement needed there!
And big thanks to Verena Berard, GRETB Horticulture teacher, for giving a talk on the GRETB garden compost system - lots of tips for home use.

Best of luck to our Outdoor Sport and Recreation QQI Level 5 group who are currently in Audierne in Brittany on their Erasmus+ programme. Very excited here last week and as they made their final preparations.

Big thank you to our QQI Level 5 Outdoor Sport and Recreation traineeship students and their teachers, Brian and Shane, who did a beach clean on Gurteen Beach in Roundstone as they finish off their term for Christmas. This is one of the many Green Campus actions that take place throughout the academic year. Thanks guys!
