We have had a number of exciting events in the Department over recent months - one such event was in March/April where ten students from the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction at travelled to Thomas More University of Applied Sciences in Geel, Belgium, as part of the Blended Intensive Programme (Erasmus).
During their visit, the students had the opportunity to engage in hands-on 3D concrete printing with Axel Boons and the staff at Thomas More. Additionally, they enjoyed an informative visit to the Weber factory who are at the forefront of 3D concrete printing.

A highlight of this project was the collaboration between students from ATU Donegal, Thomas More, and Zealand - Sjællands Erhvervsakademi in Denmark on their 3D concrete printing projects. A few Belgian beers were also tasted - it would be rude not to!

We look forward to the next phase of this BIP Project at Zealand in Denmark during the academic year 2025/2026 and extend our gratitude to Thomas More for being exceptional hosts, particularly Stephanie Vanderhoydonck. Thank you to Eleanor Diver at ATU Donegal who was central to organising the trip for the staff and students in our Department.

Great to have Dan Shanahan, Commercial Manager with Jones Engineering Group, talk to our 4th year students this week. Dan talked about the type of projects in numerous European countries he works on. Great insights and great advice for the upcoming graduates.
