Online shoppers are facing yet another charge, with a new €2 handling fee set to come on top of the €3 charge already introduced on small parcels from outside the EU.

Deputy Pearse Doherty says the approach is putting the burden on ordinary shoppers and postal services, while letting online giants off the hook.

For many purchases, these charges can also trigger additional An Post administration fees — meaning the cost of a low-value item can quickly add up.

Sinn Féin is calling on the Government to push for these charges to be suspended and for online corporations to be held responsible at source, rather than continually passing the cost onto households.

“Nationalists really were discriminated against and trodden on, we were penned in like animals with three or four families to one house, when you think where we are today. And that was only 50 years ago.”

Only 5 additional GPs have been employed in Donegal since 2020, despite significant population growth across the county.

Cllr Dakota Nic Mheanman says the figures show GP services simply have not kept pace, with practices full, waiting lists closed and families travelling long distances just to access basic healthcare.

Across the state, 5,775 people have already had to contact the HSE this year for help finding a GP.

People in Donegal deserve access to a family doctor when they need one. Sinn Féin is calling for urgent investment to recruit and retain more GPs, particularly in rural communities.

No one should face harassment or intimidation simply for serving their community.

We stand in solidarity with our comrade Cllr Dakota Nic Mheanman, who has spoken out after being targeted as part of what appears to be a coordinated campaign of harassment against female elected representatives.

Dakota has shown great courage in speaking publicly about her experience. By doing so, she has helped shine a light on an issue affecting women in public life across Ireland.

Politics must be a place where women can serve their communities free from abuse, intimidation and fear.

We commend Dakota for speaking out and thank An Garda Síochána and the AILG Women’s Caucus for their support.

Our activists recently carried out a clean-up of the memorial marking the place where Volunteer Michael Heaney was killed by British forces at Malinmore, Glencolmcille.

Michael Heaney, from Malinbeg, was killed on February 1921 and is remembered as the first Volunteer of the Irish Republican Army to lose his life at the hands of British forces in Donegal.

Preserving sites like this ensures that the stories and sacrifices of those who fought for Irish freedom continue to be remembered by future generations.

Comhghairdeas to everyone involved in the clean-up and maintenance of this important local memorial.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mary Doherty, beloved wife of former MP for West Tyrone and former Sinn Féin Vice President, Pat Doherty.

Mary was a lifelong republican and a proud supporter of the cause of Irish unity. A strong, kind and determined woman, she will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies to Pat, Maria, Rosaleen, Kathleen, Danny, Michael and the entire Doherty family at this very difficult time.
