A packed room in Letterkenny this week as people from across Donegal came together to discuss the growing cost of living crisis.

Deputies Pearse Doherty and Pádraig Mac Lochlainn heard directly from families, workers, pensioners and young people feeling the pressure of rising costs.

The message was clear: people need support now, not next year.

Sinn Féin is calling for an Emergency Budget to help workers and families, and remains committed to delivering the real change needed to build a better and fairer Ireland.

Sinn Féin Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins visited Killea and Nixon’s Corner to meet local residents and discuss the need for better transport links, improved road safety measures and stronger connectivity between Donegal and Derry.

Representatives from Bus Éireann and Translink were also in attendance to discuss improvements to local bus services and infrastructure, including safer bus stops and bays along this busy route.

Better connectivity is vital for local residents, families and young people travelling between both communities every day.

On this day, 35 years ago, agents of the British State assassinated Councillor Eddie Fullerton at his home in Buncrana.

Eddie was a tireless representative for the people of Buncrana and Donegal. He was loved by all who knew him.

For all of the years since, Eddie’s family have pursued the truth with justice.

Thanks to their dedicated and determined efforts, we now know that the British State directed their agents in the UDA (many of whom were either former or serving British soldiers) to kill Republican leaders in communities across the north west of Ireland from the late 1980s to the early 1990s.

The British agent who oversaw the assassination of Eddie Fullerton in 1991 was a sectarian serial killer who went on to oversee the sectarian massacres at Castlerock and Greysteel in 1993.

The British State have shielded him from justice for all of that time.

The family of Eddie Fullerton are also very clear that they have been badly failed by Irish governments and An Garda Síochána.

They have known all of this but have not demanded the full truth from the British state and pursued justice for Eddie and all the other victims.

But the truth always comes out in the end.

Eddie’s greatest wish was for a United Ireland.

Our greatest memorial to this wonderful man will be the delivery of a 32 County Irish Republic based on the values that he fought for every day.

This is a great initiative and we look forward to seeing it replicated across other League of Ireland grounds in the weeks ahead.

It was a brilliant evening in the Jim Lynch room at Letterkenny Community Centre last night where Donegal Sinn Féin held a Republican panel event.

Former hunger striker Laurence McKeown and lifelong Sinn Féin activists Eileen Shields and Conor Keenan discussed their experiences of the Republican struggle, from the early 1970s to the present day.

It was enlightening to have three unique voices from all across our island giving their perspectives on how we can facilitate the important conversations on Irish unity.
