Congratulations and the very best wishes to Newcastle West native Carolyn Hayes who qualified to represent Ireland in the individual triathlon in the Tokyo Olympics.
Carolyn was no stranger to the Dean O'Brien swimming pool growing up and it's clear that her love of swimming has stayed with her.
Best of luck Carolyn 👏👏👏

As some if you may know, we have been busy carrying out surveys with the primary schools in Newcastle West and surrounding areas to determine the level of support for the redevelopment of the Dean O'Brien public swimming pool. The response has been hugely positive with over 1200 signed forms returned to date which identifies over 5000 people who would potential benefit from the proposed facility. This survey could not have been coordinated without the ongoing support of the staff of the primary schools and the parents of primary school children in the locality. These forms will provide quantifiable evidence to get political support for this major undertaking.

THE campaign to get a new, public swimming pool built in Newcastle West has moved up a gear. The Dean O’Brien Pool committee last week invited sitting councillors to spell out their position on the issue and to get behind the campaign to secure full council backing for the facility. Committee ...

The Dean O'Brien Pool committee had a very positive meeting with our local councillors last evening in the Desmond Complex. The agenda was centered around how we can all work together to ensure that modern public swimming facilities can be made available for the people of NCW and surrounding areas. Many thanks to Michael Collins, John Sheahan, Francis Foley, Jerome Scanlan and Séamus Browne for your attendance and valuable participation. If you have any thoughts on the need for public swimming facilities in NCW, please speak to your local councillors. The success of this project depends on this committee, the Limerick City and County councillors and the public as a whole working together. NCW deserves modern inclusive facilities which would benefit young and old and people of all abilities. Many thanks for your ongoing support. The Limerick Leader were represented at this meeting by Norma Prendeville who will publish further details from the meeting.
