Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre The centre interprets an Iron Age bog road that was built in the year 148 B.C. across the boglands o across the boglands of Longford, close to the River Shannon.

The oak road is the largest of its kind to have been uncovered in Europe and was excavated by Professor Barry Raftery of University College Dublin. Inside the interpretive centre, an eighteen-metre stretch of the preserved trackway is on permanent display in a hall specially designed to preserve the ancient wooden structure. Bord na Móna and the Office of Public Works have carried out conservation

work on the surrounding bog to ensure that it remains wet and that the buried road remains preserved. Location: 3km from Kenagh village and accessed on the Longford - Kenagh road, R357. 15km from Longford or from the Mullingar - Lanesboro road R392. Bus Routes: Private operators only. Guided Tours:
Access by guided tour only. Maximum number: 50. Duration: 1 hour. Last tour at 17:00. Leaflet/Guide book: English. Photography/Video: Permitted, except in the audiovisual theatre. Permission required for commercial purposes

What a fabulous day on the bog.
A great day to spot the elusive Common Lizard taking in the sun.

Our guide Mary captured some lovely shots of the beautiful flora blossoming on the bog at present, Heath Orchids are dotted all over Corlea with Tormentils, St. John's Worth, Birdsfoot Trefoil and Rose Bay Willow Herb to name but a few.

Beautifully hot day on the bog today.

A reminder during these high temperatures not to dispose of glass bottles, cigarette ends etc on our bogs as they are extremely flammable in this type of weather and are very prone to bog fires which is detrimental to our bog flora and fauna.
