⚠️ Storm Dave - Status yellow wind warning for Ireland

Stay back, Stay high, Stay dry

- Coastal flooding is likely, especially around high tide times and in exposed, low-lying locations along the Atlantic coastal counties.
- High astronomical tides (Spring Tides) coinciding with storm surge and persistent onshore winds will further increase the risk of coastal flooding.
- Areas along the west and north coasts are particularly vulnerable.
- Winds are westerly and south westerly for the weekend.
- Strong onshore winds combined with high waves may lead to wave overtopping and flooding in low-lying and exposed coastal areas.

🐰 🚀 Ahead of the Easter weekend, take simple safety precautions when visiting the coast or planning activities on or near the water. Members of the public are also asked to keep an eye on the weather forecast, as conditions can change quickly.

Key safety advice for all water users includes the following:
🌦️ Check the weather, wind and tide times before going in, on, or near water
🦺 Wear an appropriate lifejacket, including when angling from shore
β›΅ Operate your craft at a safe speed appropriate to the weather conditions and other water users
πŸ—£οΈ Inform someone on shore of your plans and time you will return
πŸ“² Always carry a means of calling and signalling for help
πŸ“– Get the right level of training for your craft

πŸ“ž If you see somebody in trouble on the water or along the coast or think that they are in trouble, use Marine VHF Ch 16 or dial 112 and ask for the Coast Guard

Well done Brian a remarkable achievement 40 years service. Thanks for all your help and support over the years πŸ₯³πŸŽ‰πŸ₯³πŸŽ‰πŸ’ͺ

Huge congratulations to Brian Thompson on receiving his 40 Year Long Service Medal from the Irish Coast Guard tonight! πŸ‘

For four decades, Brian has dedicated his time, skill and unwavering commitment to serving his community through the Greencastle Coast Guard Unit. From search and rescue operations to mentoring new members and promoting water safety, his contribution has made a lasting impact both locally and nationally. His professionalism and leadership have guided countless operations - and plenty of us along the way!

Of course, no tribute to Brian would be complete without mentioning the legendary storytelling. The stories might be long-winded, and you’re never quite sure what the punch line will be (or when it’s coming!), but they’re always delivered with heart - and usually a captive audience. And as for the outfit choices over the years… let’s just say the Coast Guard uniform has seen some interesting interpretations! Thankfully, his dedication has always been far more consistent than his fashion sense. πŸ˜„

All jokes aside, this medal is a fitting recognition of an extraordinary 40 years of service, commitment and friendship. We are incredibly proud of you, Brian - a remarkable achievement and so very well deserved.

From all at Greencastle Coast Guard Unit

As usual MRSC Malin Head will be manned 24/7 throughout the Christmas period, ready at all times to assist anyone who may need help at sea or along the coast. Our dedicated teams remain on watch day and night, ensuring the safety of all mariners and coastal users during this busy and often challenging time of year. We also have a very important and special duty on Christmas Eve β€” keeping a close eye on Santa to make sure he stays safe while he is in the Irish Search and Rescue Region delivering presents to children across the country. Merry Christmas to you all from all of us here at MRSC Malin Head and wishing you a Happy, Peaceful and Safe New YearπŸŽ„πŸŽ…
