Minister Patrick O'Donovan has today launched a late-night museum scheme in support of a commitment in the Programme for Government and the ongoing development of a diverse Night-Time Economy in Ireland. The ‘After Hours at the Museum Scheme’ 2026, representing €420,000 of funding support, builds on the learnings from a 2023 pilot scheme and aims to support museums and galleries across the country to open later, programme new live events and encourage diversity of offering in towns and cities across the country.
Speaking today, Minister O’Donovan said:
“Museums and galleries are unique cultural spaces in our local communities that have an important role to play in developing a more diverse Night-Time Economy. Through this programming of cultural events and the late openings, we want to encourage visitors and attract new audiences into these spaces.”

Inniu sheol an tAire Patrick O'Donovan scéim iar-ama san iarsmalann chun tacú le gealltanas a tugadh i gClár an Rialtais agus le forbairt leanúnach Geilleagair Oíche éagsúil in Éirinn. Tá an ‘Scéim Iar-Ama san Iarsmalann’ 2026, tacaíocht mhaoinithe €420,000 i gceist leis, ag cur leis an méid a foghlaimíodh ó scéim phíolótach in 2023 agus tá sé mar aidhm léi tacú le hiarsmalanna agus le gailearaithe ar fud na tíre chun oscailt níos déanaí sa tráthnóna, chun clár imeachtaí nua beo a bhunú agus chun éagsúlacht na tairisceana i mbailte agus i gcathracha ar fud na tíre a spreagadh.
Bhí an méid seo a leanas le rá ag an Aire O’Donovan inniu:
“Is spásanna cultúrtha ar leith iad iarsmalanna agus gailearaithe inár bpobail áitiúla a bhfuil ról tábhachtach acu i nGeilleagar Oíche níos éagsúla a fhorbairt. Trí imeachtaí cultúrtha agus uaireanta oscailte níos déanaí sa tráthnóna, táimid ag iarraidh cuairteoirí a spreagadh agus pobail nua a mhealladh chomh fada leis na spásanna seo.”
