Things are happening at the Georgian Quarter. Locals meet with the consultants working on plans to transfo the beauty of George Street and King Square. A very positive interaction. People looking forward and being positive. It’s going to be an enormous opportunity to regain character and make the area more beautiful. People genuinely want this to work.

Wildlife in the Georgian Quarter.

BATS NEED FRIENDS
Having gone to a lot of trouble and expense rehousing our bats in the chancel attic last summer, it appears one of them prefers to hibernate on the stairs. Anne Morrisson discovered this Long Eared Bat had taken up residence over the weekend. He/she is not just tiny but also sound asleep. In hibernation, their heartbeat drops from a normal of about 200 beats per minute to around ten beats.

So for now, we're letting her be and hopefully, soon, she'll fine a less inconvenient place to take her winter rest. Nature is simply amazing and yes, bats really do need friends.

Great work continuing at Saint George's Arts and Heritage Centre.

SAINT GEORGE'S DAY
Today is Saint George's Day, and in keeping with a long tradition, we'll ring the bell today at noon (the time varies, but not the date). George was reputedly a soldier in the Roman army and is the patron saint of several countries including Ethiopia, Georgia, Catalonia and, of course, England. He's buried in Israel.

Our photo here of the 'Lamb of Christ' is soon to undergo restoration, thanks to a grant from the The Heritage Council and with support from Mona Hallinan, Building Conservation Officer with Cork County Council. The grant is helping us begin restoration works on all our stained glass windows. The second phase of restoration work on the roof starts next week.
