D.V.R aims to identify and respond to the needs of women and children in Co. Galway who are subjected to violence and abuse in the home and to develop long-term responses that work towards the
elimination of domestic violence. provides the following services:
• Free and confidential counselling and support
• Telephone support
• Outreach service
• Accompaniment to other services e.g. guards, court
• Child play therapy
• Referral to other services
• Transport to refuges
• Preparation of marital and relationship histories
• Advocacy work
• Liaising with other service providers
• Prevention, Education and Awareness Raising
Domestic Violence can involve:
Emotional Abuse (Mind games making you think you are crazy)
Verbal Abuse (Name calling, criticising, constant put-downs)
Physical Abuse (Hitting, shoving, biting)
Financial Abuse(Controlling all the money, making you beg for money)
Sexual Abuse (Treating you like a sex object)
