Soccer Reunion

Over fifty years ago a group of local soccer enthusiasts came together to form a club of their own.
Based in Kilamery and drawing players from Mullinahone and the surrounding area the team became known as Ragworth Utd. The name came from the noxious w**d that once covered their first pitch.

After a few seasons Ragworth bowed out , moved down the road and became St Michaels.
Under the guidance of the late and fondly remembered Stephen Watters the club went through a purple patch playing in a field known locally as 'The Bog'
Crowds flocked to the games in those days as the team gained promotion and came within a goal of being the first club from the third division to reach the McCalmont Cup final.

Whenever old teammates meet they fondly recall games, teammates and a time when we thought our footballing days would never end.

In 2024 a grand reunion of all those who played soccer with Ragworth, St Michaels and Mullinahone is planned for Kilamery where the first ball was kicked all those years ago.
Photographs, match reports and other memorabilia are being gathered ahead of the reunion.

This is the first call to former players who laced their boots on rainy days and togged out under ditches.
The word is out now and please spread it to any old teammate you meet along the way. Anyone with memorabilia, match reports, photographs or even old jerseys please get in touch with Jimmy Wall or John Bermingham.

A date for the reunion will be set early in the New Year

Kickham Commemoration

Dáil Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 19 May 1982

"I would suggest that he (An Taoiseach) would encourage his Minister for Education to include some of Charles Kickham's writings in the school curricula at national and secondary school level.

An Taoiseach: I will certainly see what can be done about that."

What do you think?
Should The Homes of Tipperary - Knocknagow be included in school curriculum?

Kickham Commemoration

A brilliant piece from Eugene O'Meara about the route taken this weekend

"Some people may ask why the walk is taking that particular route this year?

Well, local history and folklore tells us that this is the way that Kickham actually went on his rambles to Gurteen. This is probably right as the 'New Line' road (from Co-Op) is reputed to be a famine road, and wouldn't have existed when Kickham was a lad"

We hope to see a good crowd around on Sunday for the wreath laying, the oration, and the walk.

Kickham: From Mullinahone to Missouri

A beautiful contact made from Colleen Kickham Shaw in Louis, Missouri; a relation of our very own Charles Kickham.

Can anyone help Colleen with their question? Email Colleen on [email protected] if you've any information. 📧

Colleen, please make sure you put Mullinahone back on your list of places to visit the next time you're "home". There's so much of Charles Kickham's life we can show you. 🇮🇪
