We are so proud to share that our very own Mary Fitzsimons, Regional Programme Manager for the East, will be presenting at the Generations at Work Conference this week in DCU.

Held during Ireland’s Presidency of the European Union, this event will bring together voices from across Europe and beyond to explore how we respond to one of the defining challenges of our time, demographic change and the need for greater intergenerational fairness.

As people live longer and societies evolve, questions of how we learn, work and support one another across generations have never been more urgent. This conference creates a space for meaningful dialogue between researchers, policymakers, practitioners and communities, all working towards more inclusive and sustainable futures.

Led by DCU and the Age Friendly University Global Network (Europe), the conference reflects a growing European approach to age-friendly higher education, one that recognises universities as civic anchors, connecting knowledge, policy and lived experience to drive real change.

Wishing Mary the best of luck as she shares her expertise.

On Wednesday, 7th October 2026, the City North Hotel in Gormanstown was buzzing with energy, connection, and warm conversation as the Age Friendly Programme in Meath County Council ran their Meath Cares About Older People’s Expo.
The event was a massive success, bringing together members of our community, local service providers, and organizations dedicated to supporting our older population. Beyond the wealth of information, resources, and expert advice on display, the true highlight was the vibrant sense of togetherness throughout the room.

The theme "Meath Cares About Older People" was far more than just an event title - it was a powerful, living statement of Meath’s shared community values. It served as a vital reminder that caring for our older residents isn’t just a slogan; it’s about actively building an inclusive, Age Friendly environment where our older generation feels valued, supported, and connected. Events like this highlight the strength of our community networks and reinforce how essential it is to ensure everyone has access to the practical advice, essential resources and opportunities to stay active, engaged and connected

Following on from the National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to the independent judging panel for 2026. Pat Dowling, former Chief Executive of Clare County Council, Jimmy Feane, former Director of Services of Limerick County Council, Madeleine Quirke, former CEO of Wexford Chamber of Commerce, Clare Curley, former Director of Services of Tipperary County Council, Anna Marie Delaney, former Chief Executive of Offaly County Council and John Kerin, former Chief Superintendent in An Garda Síochána in Clare came together to evaluate all 164 applications.

After long deliberations the shortlisting process was completed and 36 projects were chosen, ultimately leading to our winners on the night. The Judge's travelled far and wide across Ireland throughout a three week period, visiting each project and getting to meet the people behind each initiative. Their knowledge and expertise proved vital in choosing some very worthy winners out of incredible competition.

Thank you again to our judges 💫
