Why not come to the library this week an explore our special book display featuring voices from around the world?

"Books invite us to see through new eyes, question assumptions and develop empathy that comes from truly knowing another person's story. Reading and listening to stories of those forced to seek safety helps us to imagine lives beyond our own, understand decision we might never face, and find shared humanity where we least expect it"

What a wonderful evening at New Ross library with brilliant Flor Mac Carthy.
Flor has us enthralled as she took us through the letters JFK and Jackie Kennedy had written in relation to their visit to New Ross.
Flor also detailed letters from and to Irish presidents across the years.
A very insightful and interesting talk.
Thanks to Flor for giving us such a lovely evening and thanks to all that attended.

Flor MacCarthy, author of The Presidents’ Letters, reveals correspondence and photos surrounding the visits to Ireland of President John F Kennedy, Jacqueline Kennedy and their children John and Caroline. JFK described his 1963 trip to Ireland as the "highlight" of his European tour and the "three happiest days" of his life. Just five months later, he was assassinated in Dallas. This talk also includes detail from the 33 letters written by Jacqueline Kennedy to Irish priest Fr. Joseph Leonard between 1950 and 1964, revealing her personal thoughts on her marriage, her life in the White House and her "raw grief" following the assassination.

Flor MacCarthy is a journalist and author. Her bestselling book, The Presidents’ Letters, was shortlisted for Best Irish-Published Book 2021. She presents political debates on Oireachtas TV from Leinster House and the European Parliament, and is a former news reporter and television presenter with RTÉ.
