Dedicated to the memory of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, President of the United States from 1961 to 1963, the Arboretum is a plant collection of international standing. It covers 252 hectares (623 acres) on the southern slopes and summit of Slievecoiltia. It contains 4,500 types of trees and shrubs from all temperate regions of the world, planted in botanical sequence. Special features include an Eric

aceous Garden, (with 500 different rhododendrons, and many varieties of azaleas and heathers), dwarf conifers, hedges, ground covers and climbing plants. The lake is the most popular part of the Arboretum, and is a haven for waterfowl. A road provides access to the summit at 271m from which there are panoramic views. A Visitor Centre houses exhibitions and audio visual show. Location: 12 km south of New Ross (off R733). Latitude 52.32211. Longitude -6.93147

And that's a wrap for Day 2 at The Marquee for the Kennedy Summer School Speakers' Lunch. 🍽πŸ₯‚ The sun was out for our special tree planting ceremony with H.E Sophie Katsarava, Ambassador of Georgia to Ireland, who planted a subspecies of Black Alder known to the floodplain forests of Georgia (Alnus glutinous subsp.barbata). The guest of honour at this year's luncheon was award winning journalist & author Lara Marlowe, who discussed geopolitics with interviewer Larry Donnelly. The Marquee was filled with a colourful banquet by Westgate Design & the rain stayed away!β˜€οΈA great day for all involved!

Highlights from The Marquee at the arboretum for the Kennedy Summer School Afternoon Tea Party πŸ«– We had the Primary Schools STEM Event discussing Astrophysics & Space Science & even with the arrival of a Status Yellow Rain Warning β˜”οΈ, broadcaster Teresa Mannion made the "necessary journey" πŸ˜‰ of joining us as the year's special guest with interviewer SeΓ‘n Connick. The ICA provided homemade refreshments while everyone enjoyed live singing by artists Eryn Buckley & Todd Brothers. Looking forward to Day 2 tomorrow! For this year's , it was Wild Child Play with Clay! 🦊 🫢 Our "Clay Creatures" workshop with π”½π•π• π•£π•–π•Ÿπ•”π•– & π•„π•šπ•π•π•ͺ | Pottery Wexford was inspired by our pop-up wildlife photography exhibit by Edno Delaney, reflecting the natural heritage of the arboretum for . We also had OPW Biodiversity Officer LorcΓ‘n Scott on tour to look at the flora & fauna of the site from Bumblebee I.D. to tracking pine marten s**t! Thanks to all our speakers & to everyone who booked in with us for this special week.
