Obair is a Social Enterprise; based in Newmarket on Fergus and serving communities across Co. Clare. Clare delivering 6 routes a day.

This project is supported by the Dept of Community Development and Pobal through the Community Services Programme. Obair has been in existence in Newmarket on Fergus for nearly 28 years. It is a community development organisation that works with people to combat social isolation as well as to develop social enterprise in the area. We support those who are unemployed or elderly and work to facilita

te greater community participation in the area. We operate a Community Crèche, Afterschool Programme, Meals on Wheels Service, Tradaree Food Hub, Environment Section and Youth Cafe. We opened the O’ Regan Park Playground and Recreation Area in 2014 and it has become one of the County’s favourite family spots. Our Meals on Wheels service is available to Older Persons in Co Clare areas of Newmarket, Shannon, Ennis, Clarecastle, Quin, Kilkishen and Sixmilebridge. We have 2 buildings in Newmarket on Fergus; our offices and Community Creche are located at the Obair Family Centre on Ennis Road and our Meals on Wheels service and Youth Café operates from Obairs Tradaree Hub on Main Street. In 2021 we opened The Tradaree Hub which contains a busy purpose built production kitchen providing Meals on Wheels in Co. It also houses a 16 station chef training school, Food Incubation Hubs for start ups, remote working office spaces and boardroom as well as a separate Youth Space.

What a laugh we had today at our Silent Disco! 🎧🕺💃

The kids absolutely loved it, the teenagers were too cool… well, for the first few minutes anyway! 😂

Kelvin absolutely stole the show with his drumming — there was no stopping him! 🕺🔥 And Laura rocked the dance floor with her moves 💃🎶

What a few weeks our Junior and Teenage Summer Camps have been having — great fun, plenty of adventures and lots of memories made! ☀️😂

Our Meals on Wheels clients are getting back into their hot dinners after salads galore over the summer, and our brilliant volunteers are definitely grateful that it’s getting a little cooler! 🍲❤️

From free ice creams from Eurospar Newmarket-on-Fergus 🍦, to trips to Turoe Pet Farm with our summer campers, and on to Salthill with the Tradaree Youths — we’ve certainly packed plenty into the summer!

A special mention to Karlee from all of us — we’re wishing you well and hope you’re back on your feet very soon. 💕 And a huge thank you to everyone who supported the Tradaree Youths’ cake sale. Every bit of support means so much. 🧁🍰

And now… the dreaded word is beginning to creep back in… SCHOOL! 🎒📚
Where has the summer gone?! 😭😂

On a very bittersweet note, we also had to say goodbye to Shaunagh, Cullen and Fionn as they head off to start a new chapter in Kerry. 💚💛

There were tears from the children and staff — we were nearly crying all day! 😭 But we are absolutely delighted for Shaunagh and the family as they begin their new adventure.

You have been such a part of our Obair family and you’ll be greatly missed.

Best of luck in Kerry, Shaunagh, Cullen & Fionn. 💕

Well, another busy break is over after our little “holipops” in the crèche! 😊

While the crèche took a well-earned break, our amazing Meals on Wheels kitchen never stopped. The only day we close all year is Christmas Day. A huge thank you to all our staff and volunteers who keep this vital service going every single day. ❤️

Tomorrow morning our teenagers are heading off to Derg Isle, leaving at 8:30am. Headman Conor is off with them… best of luck to everyone (and good luck, Conor! 😂).

⚠️ Any youth who hasn’t returned their permission form, please DM us immediately. Places are limited, and unfortunately no one can travel without a completed permission form.

♻️ We also have some great news! Our brand-new bright yellow can and plastic bottle recycling bins have arrived. These bins are for cans and plastic bottles only and are located:
🟡 O’Regan Park
🟡 Outside the Crèche
🟡 Outside the Tradaree Social Enterprise Centre

Please help us keep our community clean and support our recycling efforts by using them correctly. The bins are covered by CCTV to help prevent misuse.

Also Fintin and his lads are doing a great job fixing everything in the park the place has got very run down with the extreme weather but fair play to the lads on youth summer skills programne

🌞 Sorry to dampen the summer! 🌞

Here at Obair, we operate a full circular economy model, and we’re looking for high-quality school uniforms for:

🎒 Scoil na Maighdine Mhuire, Newmarket-on-Fergus
🎒 St. Caimin’s School, Shannon

We are only looking for uniforms that are:
✅ In very good condition
✅ Clean
✅ Not faded or discoloured
✅ No holes, tears, or stains

If you have any to donate, please drop them into Obair or send us a DM.

With the cost of living continuing to affect so many families, we’d love to help as many people as we can.

If you’re looking for a uniform, send us a DM with the size you need. If one becomes available, we’ll get in touch and pass it on.

Best of luck to St. Gabriel’s Foundation and the Michael Guinee Charitable Foundation on their planning application for the proposed respite centre for children and adults with disabilities at the former Parochial House in Newmarket-on-Fergus.

As our crèche closes for its well-earned summer break, it’s a great time to reflect on another fantastic week at Obair.

Our little ones, after-school children and teenagers all had an amazing time just being kids – making memories, having fun and enjoying the summer.

Our Meals on Wheels service kept rolling thanks to our incredible staff and our volunteers. Even with four vans breaking down this week and everyone working through the heat, the team never let our older people down. What an achievement.

Our Bug Café young people are doing brilliantly, growing in confidence and learning new skills every day, while our Pre Apprentice young adults had a fantastic DIY training course this week with DIY School.

That’s a lot of happy young people, happy older people, happy staff and happy volunteers.

To top it all off, our amazing kitchen team enjoyed a well-deserved night out in Monks, Quin. They certainly earned it!

Thank you to every member of staff, volunteer, supporter and family who helps make Obair such a special place. Enjoy the summer break, everyone! ☀️💚

A huge THANK YOU to everyone at Obair Community Crèche, Newmarket-on-Fergus for inviting us to host a fantastic private screening this morning! 💛🎬

It was an absolute pleasure welcoming all the little movie fans to enjoy Minions & Monsters on the big screen. Seeing so many smiling faces, laughter, and excitement made our morning!

Thank you to the wonderful children, staff, and families for making it such a fun and memorable event. We can't wait to welcome you all back again soon for another movie adventure! 🍿✨
