On Friday afternoon we received a request to assist locating a hiker who had been lost for a number of hours on the Slieve Blooms. Two of our search teams responded to the call and managed to locate the missing person safe and well.

On Saturday several of our volunteers took part in a national radiation monitoring training exercise for the Environmental Protection Agency.

Today our volunteers provided medical cover for day 29 of The FTD Brothers Foundation Irish Marathon.

The FTD Brothers Foundation are running a marathon in every county in Ireland to raise awareness and fundraising for Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) research.

Thanks to everyone who came out to cheer them on or run alongside them on their 29th run today.

Last week we welcomed An Garda Síochána Laois/Offaly and Laois Domestic Abuse Service for a domestic violence awareness workshop at our HQ. Several of our volunteers also supported events to support this years Go Purple Day to raise domestic abuse awareness.

Members of our boat crew also completed personal survival techniques training in Portlaoise and Castletown along with volunteers from Kilkenny, Carlow, Kildare and Tipperary.

Over the last week our volunteers have attended several events and training courses including providing assistance to the National Ambulance Service (NAS) college in Tullamore with a multi casualty exercise for paramedic students alongside our colleagues in Offaly Civil Defence.

Our new EMTs also completed a Pre-hospital trauma life support course in Portlaoise while a number of volunteers provided assistance to colleagues in Limerick Civil Defence with the Great Limerick Run 2026.

This weekend Civil Defence provided medical cover for the Coillte Mountain Bike Festival on the Slieve Bloom Mountains.

On Saturday over 30 volunteers from Laois, Offaly, Kilkenny & Mayo units provided medical cover for the Slieve Bloom leg of the Gravel Ride Series.

While on Sunday 26 volunteers from Laois and Offaly units provided medical cover for this years Biking Blitz.

A big thanks to our colleagues from the other units for their assistance across the weekend.

This week we welcomed a group of new volunteers for the start of their recruits course. Over the next 12 weeks the volunteers will under take several training courses to give them the core skills and qualifications needed for volunteering with Civil Defence.

Over the last number of days our volunteers have undertaken several events and training exercises including attendance at Civic Receptions for Laois County Council, Boat Operations Training, Food Safety / Rest Centre Training & HEMS familiarisation with the National Ambulance Service (NAS)
