Excellent Toastmaster Clubs in Kildare (meeting at the Silken Thomas at 8.00pm on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of each month) and in Portlaoise (Meeting in the Killeshin on the 2nd & 4th Mondays of each month) are very welcoming, friendly and great places to improve your public speaking and leadership skills.

Portarlington Speakers bow out in style
Toastmaster for the evening Mark Bastow chaired a very enjoyable and stimulating evening. Nicola Brennan-Ryan gave a very informative and inspiring speech on the work of Jigsaw, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health. Ger Kennedy held us all captive with her account of how she had witnessed at close quarters the 1991 and 1993 coups in Moscow. Carmel Moore, the Club President, gave a very entertaining table topics session along with walnut whips.
This was the last meeting of Portarlington Speakers. As the Club is now closed past and prospective members are invited to Kildare Toastmasters who normally meet in the Silken Thomas at 8.00pm on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month (check the website for the December dates) and Portlaoise Toastmasters who meet in the Killeshin on the second and fourth Mondays of each month (again check the website for December dates). The Kildare and Portlaoise Toastmasters Clubs are ranked as two of the very best in Ireland, are very welcoming, and are excellent ways to improve your public speaking and leadership skills. Finally many thanks to the many people who supported Portarlington Speakers.

Where Dreams come True
Carmel Moore’s speech “Dreams Do Come True” inspired us all. If you want something enough you will put in the effort to make it happen. Donal Cahill explained how he was making his dream of efficient Business Intelligence into a reality in the public sector and Mark Bastow tackled the tricky question of how to deal with impromptu speaking.
After a break for networking it was off on a very varied topics session when Mark had Donal Cahill selling flowers in Grafton Street, Geraldine Kennedy showing off her pink wellies in the Botanic Gardens, Carmel Moore faith healing in Tullamore, and Esther Bastow producing tray after tray of delicious
pastries.
The CEO of an American Bank described Toastmasters as the best and least expensive personal improvement class you can go to. Your local Toastmaster Club Portarlington Speakers is where you can help make your dream come true by improving your communication and leadership skills. Our next meeting is from 7.45pm to 9.30pm at the Heritage Hotel Killenard on Tuesday 15th November and there a seat reserved just for you. You would be very welcome. See us on Facebook.

Portarlington Speakers Meeting 18th October (Next Meeting 1st November)

Congratulations to Gaynor Deacy for her first time as Toastmaster chairing the meeting in her own friendly way, to Noreen Diver for an excellent first time evaluation, to Carmel Moore for excellent presiding and evaluating, to Joanne Molloy for her bewitching tongue teaser and her timekeeping, to Edel Quinn for her debonair word of the day and to Geraldine Kennedy and Mark Bastow for their speeches. Geraldine took us through swopping your couch for running shoes and Mark gave an amusing tale of why it sometimes pays to be late.
The star of the night was Donal Cahill with his amazing topics marathon. Great evening and we have more great evenings ahead on 1st November, 15th November, and 5th December and then starting again in the New Year. These meetings are fun friendly interludes where you can enjoy self-development and public speaking from 7.45pm to 9.30pm on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month in the Heritage Hotel Killenard. All are welcome - especially you.

Great meeting last night. Noreen Diver’s speech on the difficulties of getting served in a restaurant in Vietnam had everyone in stiches. Donal Cahill’s speech on what men could learn about women from Chick Flicks should be mandatory listening for all men and it was absolutely hilarious.
Down to earth with a sensible, useful presentation on the most effective way to give positive feedback on a speech or presentation. And to prove the presentation worked we had excellent evaluations from Carmel (as ever), and from Geraldine (well done –excellent first evaluation ) and from Mark (he obviously listens occasionally).
Could it get better? Wow it did! Edel Quinn who is now our Queen of table topics gave us variety, originality and fun topics.
That was an evening not to miss!
When’s our next get together? Why Tuesday 18th October at 7.45pm at the Heritage Killenard – I’ll be there. Will you?
All are welcome.

Portarlington Speakers 20th September: A Meeting to Remember
Club President Carmel Moore moved us with Dylan Thomas’ elegy for his father “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night”.
Donal Cahill amazed us with his oversight of the Business Intelligence initiative providing high volume high value data in the public sector.
The art of impromptu speaking was mastered as Carmel Moore gave Angela Merkel a make-over, Damian Oliver transformed Donald Trump into a leaner fitter man, Donal Cahill gave career advice to Barak Obama for when he leaves the White House, and James Mooney defended of the GAA’s policy of replaying finals rather than going into extra time.
It was a great meeting. It is now a great time to improve your career enhancing skills of public speaking and leadership by joining your local Toastmasters Club “Portarlington Speakers”. Why not come along to one of our meetings on Tuesday 4th October or 18th October at 7.45pm at the Heritage Hotel Killenard. See us on FaceBook and MeetUp.
