Introducing Rathcabbin’s “Greenhouse Hub”.

Our projects from our community biodiversity action plan continue to serve our sustainability, climate action and biodiversity progress for our area. This Greenhouse Hub aligns to most of the Sustainable Development Goals as agreed by the UN for 2030 - and works to support the five pillars within community for great good.

Thanks to the pastoral council for considering our proposal options and to Nora Kennedy and Ger Slevin as important link and support people to help us with plans and the work. Huge thanks also to Denise Clancy & Flan Kennedy for onsite work through the project supporting the work done by all the Tidy Towns members onsite as well. Thanks to Ciaran Young and Smyths for kind gravel and machinery donations and to Eddie Wilson and to Tom Perry also with the dig outs needed.

As a community, your help and support is always appreciated so the raffle tickets purchased or coming to events we host made this possible. We truly never have the money otherwise. We are greatful to our funders help also Community Foundation Ireland and some monies used from Pobal and Tidy Towns funds along with the support of Tipp Coco for answering questions.

This area already supports our Tri approach road project, helps us work more productively & efficiently in the village, has allowed us to host a CE Scheme with Shannonside Development and supported our biggest plant sale and flower bed enhancements this year.

It takes a village. We enjoyed the collaboration with everyone who helped and are glad to have this job done right for the decades ahead which will enable new future projects to occur.

The steel shed was built by Tom Ryan who did and impeccable job as did Ger Slevin on the paving area with supplies all local. Circular economy all the way. The very last step will be Jack Ryan for shed lights prior to winter, enabling the storage area to have some indoor work space if we require.

When taking down the plant sale adverts last week, we decided to tidy & clean signage that leads to Rathcabbin that was hidden with briars or road & weather dirt!

All visible again 🧽😎

🎯signage upkeep was needed!

Can you relate to starting one quick job just for a few minutes yet ending up doing 2-3 things?

An amazing array of colours around the village this beautiful evening. Enjoy the weather and the long weekend.

What a great day we had yesterday. We hope everyone enjoyed the morning. Happy planting to those who purchased plants.
There are many people who make such a day possible so many thank-yous are due.

To our team of growers who make it all possible. Joan, Denise, Mark, Finnula and Jill.

Thanks to Jolanta and Jacinta for helping out on the day.

Thanks to Lorrha Dorrha Ladies Club, Siobhan and Rathcabbin School PA for providing tables and flasks.

Thanks to Anne Corcoran and her sister for their plant donations.

A special thank you to Lexie and Cora Guinan for making and selling wooden window boxes and donating their profits to the village.

Last but by no means least thanks to our own crew of volunteers who are small but mighty.

Winner of the door prize was Michael O Meara.
Thanks to Milltown Garden Centre for their support.

We raised just over 3,000 euro. THANK YOU to everyone who supported the event. Some of those funds will go towards match funding for further development of our Greenhouse Hub.

Looking forward to seeing you all at our plant sale today!

🚪
Doors open at 11am sharp; unfortunately the hall is closed until just prior as we have A LOT of setup tasks & a small crew of Tidy Towns people onsite. The setup window is important team time prior to unlocking hall doors for 11am.

😎 Look at our initial setup last night as plants from seed and propagation landed from the volunteers that grew them! Thanks Ger Slevin and Denise Clancy for safe transportation!

🪴 It’s National biodiversity week in Ireland and Rathcabbin Tidy Towns bring you choice & variety today with great pollinator friendly plants. Good idea to place an empty box in your car for the journey home.

Sneek Peek in photos…come for a cup or tea & a chat by donation with no obligation to purchase.

🐝 Annuals and many perennials, and of course baking items that won’t last long at all in any house!
