It takes a village is a Greystones initiative headed by local principal Rachel Harper that is taking the world by storm and continues reaching new heights, the likes of being featured recently in the New York Times. Next stop Brussels!

What started as a children's wellbeing and increased digital awareness has grown into involving the entire wider community; schools; businesses; Gardaí; Fire brigade and other public representatives bodies.

On hand at the unveiling of the new flag to local schools were Local Sporting heroes (Siofra Lawless and Dean Healy); Wicklow Rose Carolann McDonald as well as ex international Rugby player Alan Quinlan and entrepreneur Seán Gallagher and Aubrey and Phil from Tiglin and more.

560 vehicles were found to be travelling above the speed limit during National Slow Down Day. Members of An Garda Síochána, along with GoSafe mobile and static safety cameras operated the 24-hour enforcement operation yesterday.

Speed is a factor in one third of fatal collisions in Ireland.

A speed limit is not a target. It is simply the maximum speed you are legally entitled to drive at on a stretch of road. You must drive at a speed appropriate to road and weather conditions, volumes of traffic present and likelihood of hazards.

A small reduction in your speed could have a massive effect on the outcome for you or others. Please slow down.

Wednesday June 10th, is National Slow Down Day - a nationwide 24-hour speed enforcement plan. An Garda Síochána will be conducting speed checks around the country.

The aim of National Slow Down Days are to remind motorists of the dangers of speeding and encourage a national conversation on the impact of speeding. The consequences of speeding can be devastating, not only for yourself but for other innocent people on the road.

We can all play our part to help reduce the fatalities on our roads so please slow down - not just today but every day.
