3D-ICONS Model 1: Cairn T, Loughcrew
To coincide with the celebration of the Spring Equinox at 5,500 year old cairn at Loughcrew, Co. Meath, this week we have chosen to place three models on-line from the 3D-ICONS project from this spectacular archaeological monument. The tree models provided are at different scales to enable the viewer to see the different details of each model, and include: Cairn T, the passage chamber inside Cairn T and the finally a model of the Hag’s chair.
A combination of terrestrial laser scanning (Faro Focus 3D) and close range scanning (Artec EVA) was employed to digitally record this site.
These surveys were carried out in conjunction with the National Monuments Service - Archaeology (Dept. of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht) - thanks to Tom Condit for allowing these archaeological masterpieces to be included in the 3D-ICONS resource
