🚘 A new electric vehicle charging hub, located at Áras an Chontae, was officially unveiled by Minister of State at the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment with responsibility for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports, Seán Canney T.D. earlier today.

💡 This new facility, funded by Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland ( ) and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), is a pilot scheme demonstrating a ‘behind-the-meter’ delivery model.

📍 This innovative solution has been carefully designed with consideration for cost efficiency, grid capacity, and environmental impact.

📌 Local residents without driveways or off-street parking can benefit from a reduced overnight AC charging rate for their cars.

✔️ The hub has been designed to ZEVI’s universal design guidelines, ensuring chargers are fully accessible to all users.

▪️ The project will support other national initiatives led by ZEVI, including the Shared Island Sports Club scheme and national roads/motorway schemes.

🏊‍♂️✨ Minister Visits Castlerea Swimming Pool ✨

Minister Dara Calleary visited Castlerea to highlight recent upgrades to the town’s swimming pool and the installation of a new lift at the Hub facility.

The pool improvements include a new paddling area, outdoor showers, and solar-powered heating, while €50,000 in CLÁR funding has made the nearby Hub fully accessible.

📚✨ Ballaghaderreen Library Reopens ✨📚

Minister Dara Calleary officially reopened the refurbished Ballaghaderreen Library at Dillon House Thursday June 11th.👏

The upgraded space features a new children’s area, dedicated teen section, study spaces, and modern facilities including free Wi-Fi, accessible facilities, and a community meeting room.

Backed by over €155k in funding and support from Roscommon County Council, the library has already welcomed nearly 20,000 visitors and hosted 250+ events since reopening.

▪️Upholstered furniture, mattresses, carpets, bathroom suites, outdoor dining sets, divan beds, and hard plastics (including large toys and containers).

🚫 Not accepted
Hazardous waste (including paint cans and oil tanks), electrical items, construction and demolition waste, bagged household waste, ceramics, or textiles.

📌Cost: €20 per car/van & trailer (cash only)

✔️Eligibility: Open to domestic householders only

🚫 Please note: commercial and retail operators are not permitted.

📢This initiative forms part of the National Anti-Dumping Initiative 2026, coordinated by Roscommon County Council’s Environment Section.

It was great to celebrate National Biodiversity Week recently with a range of events held throughout the county including Biodiversity & Community Climate Action Course in Boyle, Celebration of Dawn Chorus in Roscommon, Rathcroghan Biodiversity + Archaeology Tour, Launch of Roscommon County Council Heritage Strategy and exhibition on “Our Crucial Callows” by Dee McKiernan and Bat Walk and Talk at Castlerea with Conservations.✨

While National Biodiversity Week is a time to celebrate nature and our environment with all its wonders it should be cherished, celebrated and admired all year round.👏

The art exhibition on “Our Crucial Callows” by artist Dee McKiernan will remain on display in the foyer of Aras an Chontae, Roscommon until 19th June 2026.

The exhibition is inspired by the natural beauty and biodiversity of the wetlands known as the callows (from the Irish word caladh) which are home to a wide variety of plant, animal and bird life.
