Roscommon County Council is inviting Expressions of Interest for the Town & Village Renewal Scheme 2026.

The scheme aims to support the revitalisation of rural communities through projects that: ✅ Bring vacant and derelict buildings back into use

✅ Enhance town centres and streetscapes
✅ Develop community, recreation and tourism facilities
✅ Support remote working hubs
✅ Create or improve parks, plazas and green spaces
✅ Deliver inclusive and sensory-friendly amenities

Don’t Burn Household Waste 📢

Burning household waste, whether in your garden, backyard or stove, is harmful, illegal and unnecessary.

Burning plastics, paper, painted wood and other waste materials releases dangerous pollutants into the air, affecting both human health and the environment.

Instead:

✔️ Use your household bins correctly
✔️ Bring waste to your local Civic Amenity Sites
✔️ Compost suitable organic materials

Burning waste can result in fines of up to €5,000 or imprisonment.

Storm Austen Public Safety Notice 📢

Please take sensible precautions in advance of Storm Austen. Secure loose items, stay informed through Met Éireann and local authority channels, and adjust your travel plans if necessary.

Preparation today can make a significant difference to public safety during Storm Austen. The weather will remain unsettled over the bank holiday weekend with low pressure system forecast to track over the northwest of the country on Saturday.

Met Éireann Weather Warning Status Yellow - Rain and Wind warning for Ireland 📢

There is the potential for heavy rainfall, particularly in southern and eastern coastal counties. Localised flooding is possible, so road users should not attempt to drive through flooded roads. Trees remain in full leaf at this time of year, making them more vulnerable to strong winds – motorists should be alert for fallen trees, debris and difficult driving conditions, particularly during Thursday night and Friday's morning commute. If you need to drive during the next few days, allow extra time for essential travel.

There will also be strong winds, and I would urge people to secure any loose outdoor items such as bins, garden furniture, trampolines and temporary structures before Thursday evening.

While river levels currently have some capacity and tides are relatively low, conditions can change quickly during severe weather so it's best to stay informed through Met Éireann and local authority channels and take all necessary precautions.

The high winds could also cause hazards around coastal edges, and the Irish Coast Guard advice is clear: ‘Stay Back, Stay High, Stay Dry.
