Recap part three

To round off our busy month of August, we have another couple of big events to recap.

Probably one of the biggest and most complex events we cover in our calendar year took place on Saturday August 22nd when we were once again on site to provide Medical cover for The Warriors Run. We had a huge number of volunteers working on the day with nearly 40 Civil Defence Personnel looking after the over 1300 athletes and members of the public on the day. We want to thank our colleagues in Roscommon Civil Defence once again helped on the day providing volunteers and equipment and also our colleagues in Longford Civil Defence who also provided us with extra equipment to ensure every casualty to arrived at out medical tents could get the best of care.

It was a long day with our Volunteers meeting at 9.30am that morning for our detailed briefing and we didn't get back to our depot until 7pm that evening so I want to thank our volunteers again for their time, dedication and expertise on the day.

We want to thank The Warriors Run for their trust in us to look after their athletes year after year along with Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team and Order of Malta Ireland - Ambulance Corps- Sligo who were also working on site on the day.

Rounding out the month, this past Saturday August 29th, we were once again out in Rosses Point to provide cover for the Channel Cup Swim. Again, this is a duty we have been happy to support for many a year. Thanks to Aiden and all the crew for having us once again and thankfully it was another hugely successful event.

Finally I want to acknowledge the continued support we provide to Sligo Rovers Women and Sligo Rovers F.C. week in and week out. Its is great that we can support our community team. We note there is proposed changes afoot within the club and with a new stadium build starting soon, we are excited to continue with our partnership with the club and look forward to a successful future both on and off the pitch

That is our recap complete on an exceptionally busy August and as we roll into the remainder of the year, we still have plenty of more duties on the books. Thank you to all of you who support us. Keep an eye out for us at the events and don't be afraid to say hello. Until the next time.

Recap part 2

As August progressed, our crews remained very busy. On the nights of August 7th and 8th, we were on hand to help with providing first aid cover to Sligo Summer Festival in Queen Meave Square in the heart of Sligo Town. Two great nights of music and entertainment were had by the large crowds in attendance on both nights. Thankfully the weather too played its part.

The following weekend Saturday August 15th we once again provided first aid cover to the Glencar Lough Swim. This is an event we have provided ambulance and first aid cover now for a number of years and we again, thank the organisors for the trust they have in our skills, training and volunteers. Thanks to Shane and all the gang for looking after us again.

On Sunday August 16th, we had a long day on the road providing assistance to Dublin to Drimarone Charity Cycle 2026. We took over from our colleagues for the final leg of the trip from Sligo into Donegal Town. We are always happy to help out this event and we thank Fergus for again having us look after your cyclists and crew on the day.

Well folks, what an exceptionally busy period we have had here at Sligo Civil Defence. Our Summer months are always filled with duties and events and we enjoy being able to provide the highest calibre of cover to Events and duties up and down the County. I will do my best to recap some of the duties we have down over the past month or so. There are plenty of pictures that show our wonderful volunteers in action and these posts help give you an idea of the work we do in the community.

This is Part 1 of our round up.

August started with a bang with 3 events on over the Bank Holiday weekend. On Saturday August 1st we provided first aid cover for the North Sligo Agricultural Show which took place in Grange. Beautiful weather led to a huge turn out on the day. Its was an exceptionally run event with a huge area of land covered with fun for all ages. Thank you to the North Sligo Agricultural Show for having the trust in us to help keep your patrons safe and we look forward to assisting again next year.

On the Sunday August 2nd, we had two very different events to cover. Closer to home we provided cover for the Ballisodare United 5km Run/Walk & Duck Race and slightly further afield we also assisted with a complex multi vehicle cover for the Leitrim Glens Sportive. There was a huge number of people in attendance at both and our crews provided expert care as always. Thanks to both events for having us provide your event cover.

Keep an eye out for part two of our round up.

With the sun still beating down on us, we continued our busy weekend on Sunday when we undertook providing medical cover for Sligo Triathlon Club Olympic distance triathlon in the stunning surroundings or Hazelwood, Half moon bay and on the roads around Lough Gill.

A complex event to get right but Sligo Triathlon Club do such an amazing job every year. With so many moving parts, figuratively and literally, our Civil Defence crew had to be on their toes throughout the day to be able to assist should our assistance be needed at any moment.

a 1.5km swim, 40km cycle and 10km run, under the intense heat, is an endurance for any athlete and thankfully all went off brilliantly. on the day we had 2 ambulances on site, mobile 4x4 on the road and two treatment tents fully stocked and ready to rock at a moments notice along with a big crew of Civil Defence members. Our pontoons were also used on the day to assist swimmers getting in and out of the water safely

Thank you Sligo Triathlon Club for having us once again and having the trust and faith in us to provide first class professional first aid cover once again. This is always an event we look forward to helping out with and look forward to doing it all again in 2027.

What a weekend. With the weather once again being beautiful our crews were incredibly busy across the beautiful County of Sligo covering multiple events this past weekend. As well as assisting with the Ballygawley Music Festival on Thursday evening, this past Saturday we were on hand to provide our first class services again to two big events.

Saturday morning saw us provide first aid and ambulance cover for Innisfree Wheelers Queen Maeve Women’s cycling Tour. Two distances of 45km and 90 km were undertaken by a large number of cyclists from all over Connaught and further afield. We had multiple vehicles on the road to cover both routes and ensure everyone enjoyed a safe and relaxed event. hank you to Innisfree Wheelers for having us as always and we look forward to working again with you on next years events.

Saturday evening then saw us back at our familiar surroundings of The Showgrounds to once again provide cover for the Sligo Rovers Women who put in a great performance and got another great win, this time over Wexford, in the league. A fantatsic run of results and great form has seen the team climb to 5th in the table and are hunting down a spot in the top 3.

We would encourage everyone to get behind the team and show your support for them as they are playing a great brand of attacking football and getting great results. well done Sligo Rovers Women

Thanks as always to all our volunteers who put in great work across the day.
