We had the privilege and honour to welcome one of our very own to Carns NS on Friday last. Deirdre Kelly, current President of the IPPN (Irish Primary Principals Network) took time out of her busy schedule to return to her old primary school Carns National School, Grange, Co. Sligo. Deirdre spoke to the children in both classes and made lots of lovely connections with them in relation to her past classmates and friends. She shared her experiences of times gone by when she attended the school and having her Dad, John, one of the previous principal's of the school teach her for four years. She reminisced about happy memories of break times well spent and gaelic football matches against other schools!
The children also asked Deirdre many interesting and insightful questions about her current role as IPPN President, what it entails, what a leadership role involves and what makes a good leader. We were delighted to hear about her role and how she advocates on a continuous basis for small schools.

This visit such a special occasion and one which the children will remember for a long time to come. We wish Deirdre continued success in her role.

The senior room children have been busy revising various maths concepts using a variety of stations whilst integrating their ict skills along the way ensuring that their learning experiences are fun, engaging and challenging at the same time. Tables games, Daily 10 activities, hands on decimal towers and mental maths activities have been the focus over the last number of weeks. Well done everyone.

Our junior and senior rooms came together recently to collaborate and design some really lovely signage for our school garden. Each group was given a particular item from our garden or poly tunnel to research. They then produced some really beautiful drawings which will go to print shortly and will then be installed in the garden to remind us of all the various trees, plants and vegetables & herbs which are thriving at the moment.

Everyone in Carns NS are delighted to have our CDO (coaching development officer) Damien, join us each week for Gaelic and games coaching. The skill development week on week is great to see. The children are enjoying a wide range of activities from cooperative games, catching, kicking, throwing and soloing drills. The overall benefits for their gross motor skills development is clear to see and we look forward to the next number of weeks and even more strides being made. The children in the senior room took full advantage of the fine weather a couple of weeks back to bring their learning outside. They conducted some very interesting friction and forces experiments outside in the beautiful sunshine! ☀️ We're all hoping for a return of the same weather shortly!!
