Kilnamanagh CFR Group

Kilnamanagh CFR Group The Kilnamanagh First Responder Scheme is an organisation aimed at helping improve the survival rates from cardiac arrest locally.

When someone’s heart stops, the difference between life or death may be minutes. The Kilnamanagh Community First Responder Scheme aims, in conjunction with the HSE and the National Ambulance Service, to get local responders to cardiac arrests in the community within minutes, so life-saving CPR and defibrillator shocks can be given before the ambulance arrives. Another of our main roles will involv

e teaching CPR to the community. The group is currently at the stage of recruiting volunteers and getting final approval to setup from the National Ambulance Service. This page is for those interested in the group's activities and for those interested in volunteering with us, whether as a responder, in an admin capacity, or in a fundraising role. Establishing this scheme will offer a real opportunity to save lives right here in Kilnamanagh.

We’re very pleased to announce that the newest defibrillator in Kilnamanagh is now fully operational at the top of *Tamarisk Lawns*. This is a 24-hour public access defibrillator. Many thanks to Brack Tours Ltd for sponsoring this newest addition.

We will shortly aim to schedule a free public familiarisation session, so anyone can come and see how to work one of the defibrillators. In the meantime, remember this:

If somebody is unconscious and you think they are not breathing, ring for an ambulance and send somebody to get the defibrillator.

It is 100% safe to put the pads on somebody’s chest. The machine will absolutely not deliver a shock to somebody whose heart is beating normally. You cannot cause any damage to a person by using a defibrillator. Anybody can use them. When you turn it on, the machine will speak to you and tell you what to do.

If in doubt, go and get the defibrillator, and put it on the person. You will be calling the ambulance anyway and they will talk you through the process.

In cardiac arrest, minutes literally save lives. So the quicker we can act, more likely the person is to make a full recovery.

Thanks again to everybody who was involved in getting this defibrillator sorted. Onwards to the next one now…….

Sorry we’ve been quiet on here. But we’ve been working away in the background trying to arrange Kiknamanagh’s next public access defibrillator. We’re delighted to say that, after receiving a very generous donation from a local company, we’ve been able to purchase a new defibrillator and cabinet. It’s going up in the Tamarisk area this week. Would anybody like to guess what street it’s going on?

Our paramedic Declan and our doctor Niall just doing some final checks on equipment today before starting to respond to calls in the community later this coming week as part of the national Cardiac First Responder system and the voluntary prehospital doctor system with CRITICAL charity.

Hi all. The defibrillators are back up in their normal spots now. Thanks everyone. And thanks to Declan for sorting them out 👏👏

Just to let everyone know we’ve had to take down our public defibrillators tonight to store them indoors. The batteries don’t do well in very low temperatures and it’s forecast to get down to minus 3 or 4 degrees overnight. We’ll put them back up when the temperature settles tomorrow morning. Hopefully someday we’ll have the funds for heated cabinets so we won’t have to do this, but it’s a very rare occurrence. Thanks to everyone for your support.

People will be aware that one of our defibrillators in Kilnamanagh was vandalised beyond repair recently. So we were over the moon when the FAI/Mrs. Brown’s Boys Heart Care programme donated this brand new defibrillator to replace it. We couldn’t be more thankful to them, and the community is safer as a result. This will be erected at the church railings in Kilnamanagh in the coming days, exactly where the old one was taken from. Remember, ALL of the defibrillators in Kilnamanagh are unlocked 24/7. You just turn the lid to remove them. While this makes them more vulnerable to vandalism, the ease of access makes them more accessible and therefore more effective. There are very few public defibrillators that are not in a locked cabinet, but we intend to continue to trust our community and leave this one unlocked, so there’s no delay in an emergency, when seconds can count. Thanks again to FAIreland ❤️❤️❤️

WNT Captain Katie McCabe today presented an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) to her local club Kilnamanagh AFC and the Kilnamanagh Family Rescource Centre on behalf of the Mrs. Brown’s Boys FAI Heart Care programme.

Thanks to The Echo Newspaper for writing a story about the destruction of our defibrillator. Really sad that this story has to be written 😞

A COMMUNITY First Responders Group has been left “heartbroken” by the vandalism of one of their public access defibrillators at St Kevin’s Church in Kilnamanagh. The life-saving device was removed from its unlocked case at approximately 7.20pm on Wednesday, November 1, and smashed on the groun...

*DEFIBRILLATOR STOLEN AND SMASHED IN KILNAMANAGH TONIGHT*

We’re absolutely heartbroken. After 6 years with public access defibrillators unlocked available to the community 24 hours, seven days a week, the defibrillator at the church was taken out of its box and smashed tonight. Just so absolutely pointless. €1200 euro of our community’s hard earned money wasted by guys who’ll never contribute anything to their community til the day they die.
We won’t be deterred but it’s a major setback. If anyone has any contacts in businesses etc with a connection to Kilnamanagh maybe they could let them know that any donations would be gratefully received. We won’t rest until we replace this unit, as there are now at least 1,000 people in Kilnamanagh living near the church with no access to a defibrillator.

Sad times 😢

Halloween tends to be a high risk night for damage to public access defibrillators. We’ve never had a problem in Kilnamanagh, but please maybe keep an eye on your nearest one if you’re passing tonight and if you see any signs of it being tampered with, send us a message here on our page. Many thanks 🙏

Someone pulled the cover off the defibrillator at the end of Tamarisk Way tonight, beside the house with the lights. We’ve gone around and checked the defibrillator and it’s working fine. We’ve secured the cover in place too. Thanks to the people who let us know and kept the cover safe. We have very little trouble with people tampering with these life-saving pieces of equipment, but it does happen occasionally. Hopefully this continues to be a rare incident. Kilnamanagh is in a very unique position to have defibrillators with no locks on them around the estate. Let’s keep a close eye on them, especially over Halloween. Thanks again to everyone in the community who supports this work.

Lots of questions at the St Kevin's Family Resource Centre family day today about the location of our defibrillators. So we’ve got this list laminated and will be putting copies around kilnamanagh, to give people a better idea of where these life-saving pieces of equipment are located. We’d encourage people to share this photo, especially with people who visit Kilnamanagh but don’t live here and maybe don’t see the defibrillators every day. Wherever you are in Kilnamanagh, there’s a public-access defibrillator close by! Please share!
