Himalayan Balsam Picking at the Weir this Thursday 12 June at 7pm - All welcome!

We're leading Himalayan Balsam Picking at the Weir Pool site on Thursday, all welcome to help tackle this invasive species. Wear footwear with good grip and ideally waterproof, clothing and gloves to protect against nettles and a hi-viz vest if possible.

Looks like we're getting a surprise week of summer in September! If you're swimming this week, why not travel by bike and use our lovely new bike rack? It was bought and installed by TCRT volunteers as part of our commitment to active travel and reducing car traffic at the Weir. Thanks to Kilkenny County Council for the Local Amenity grant that went towards its purchase. Happy cycling! 🚴‍♂️🏊‍♂️🚣‍♀️

Some photos taken by Michael O'Rourke at last Thursday's launch of the Water Action Plan at the Weir Pool, including our Chairperson Jeffrey Gormly delivering a copy of our Swimmers' Charter to Ministers Roderic O'Gorman TD and Malcolm Noonan T.D. . The launch was attended by a number of stakeholders and we at TCRT hope to see positive results in the water quality of our rivers and lakes as the Plan progresses 🙌

Yesterday, the Weir Pool was the site for the launch of the Dept of Housing & Local Government Water Action Plan 2024, at an event organised by Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO). The report was launched by Malcolm Noonan T.D. and Roderic O'Gorman TD and volunteers from Thomastown Community River Trust shared our Swimmers' Charter with the representatives and media present (as well as getting in for a swim, of course!)
We will be following the implementation of the Water Action Plan and support all efforts to keep the Weir and all river swimming areas safe for humans and nature 🌱✨

Delighted with our lovely new signs for the Weir Pool! As well as communicating practical information, these signs convey the great love and respect our local community has for this unique resource, as conveyed during the We ❤️ Weir Pool project. Thanks to Signiatec for the sign manufacture and our many talented volunteers for the design and installation 🙌🏊
