What Makes A Man: Spoken Word & Music in Lloyd Town Park on 19 June

Offaly County Council is delighted to present What Makes a Man, a free, open air event in Lloyd Town Park on Friday 19 June, from 4pm to 5.30pm.

This special event celebrates creativity, community and the voices of young men in Offaly, featuring original spoken word performances developed by participants from Tullamore Youth Project alongside guest artists Leon Dunne, Flynn Johnson and the Youthwork Midlands Choir.

Developed through a series of workshops exploring identity, masculinity, confidence and connection, these performances are honest, powerful and often uplifting, creating space for expression and shared experience. Presented as part of Men’s Health Week (15–21 June), the event highlights the importance of creativity and conversation in supporting wellbeing. Everyone is welcome to come along, enjoy the performances and support this inspiring showcase in park.

Last week we were honoured to launch The Art of Loss exhibition in TUS Athlone.

A heartfelt thank you to artist and facilitator Michelle O’Donnell, whose thoughtful and deeply engaging approach made this powerful exhibition possible. Through her work, she created a safe and creative space where stories could be shared, expressed and honoured.

We would also like to sincerely thank the Birr Women’s Group and Offaly Traveller Movement, whose courage, openness and generosity of spirit are at the heart of this exhibition. Their voices, experiences and creativity have shaped something truly meaningful.

Our thanks as well to all partners and supporters including TUS Midlands Access Office for helping bring this important project for helping bring this important project to life.

The Art of Loss is a moving reflection on shared human experiences—connection, memory and identity—and we are proud to support and present this work.
