"When I was younger, I couldn't stand well. I couldn't balance in my boat. Look at me now."

These words from Moira Scott perfectly capture what determination, resilience, and self-belief can achieve.

Nine years ago, Moira began her kayaking journey needing support simply to stay balanced in her boat. Today, she is a multiple gold medal-winning athlete, an athlete leader, a trainee kayaking instructor, and a proud representative of Leinster at the Special Olympics Ireland Summer Games.

Behind every medal is a story that most people never see. Early mornings. Training sessions. Challenges. Setbacks. The courage to keep trying when progress feels slow. Moira has faced all of these with remarkable determination.

What makes her achievements even more inspiring is that she has never allowed labels or expectations to define what she can accomplish. Instead, she has continued to grow, challenge herself, and prove that potential is not determined by where you start, but by your willingness to keep moving forward.

From struggling with balance to competing in both singles and doubles kayaking events, from gaining confidence through sport to helping others as an athlete leader, Moira's journey is a powerful reminder that growth happens one small step at a time.

Today we celebrate not only the medals around her neck, but the hard work, courage, and perseverance that earned them.

Everyone at NLN Tullamore is incredibly proud of you, Moira.

You have already inspired so many people simply by showing what is possible when you believe in yourself.

From struggling to stay balanced in a kayak to becoming a multi-gold medal athlete and athlete leader.

We are incredibly proud of Moira Scott, whose inspiring journey has been featured in the Irish Independent ahead of the Special Olympics Ireland Summer Games.

Nine years ago, simply staying in the boat was a challenge. Today, Moira is preparing to represent Leinster once again, competing in both singles and doubles kayaking events after already winning multiple gold medals throughout her sporting career.

What makes Moira's story so powerful is not just the medals. It is her determination, resilience, confidence, and willingness to challenge herself every step of the way. While many people only see the success, they do not always see the years of hard work, training, setbacks, and perseverance that made it possible.

Her journey reminds us that growth happens when we are given opportunities, encouragement, and the confidence to believe in ourselves.

From needing support to stay balanced in the water to training as a kayaking instructor and inspiring others through sport, Moira has shown what can be achieved through commitment and self-belief.

Everyone at NLN TULLAMNORE is cheering her on as she takes on the Special Olympics Ireland Summer Games.

Good luck, Moira. Your courage, determination, and positive attitude continue to inspire us all.

Today our students looked a little different, and so did the learning. 😊
Using LEGO Serious Play, they explored the topic of Internet Safety in a creative, hands-on, and inclusive way. Instead of only learning through paper and pen, students built ideas, challenges, emotions, and solutions using creativity, teamwork, and conversation.

What made this session special was seeing students express themselves in ways that traditional classrooms do not always allow. Some students who normally stay quiet became confident. Others connected ideas faster through building and visual thinking.

This experience reminded us that learning is not “one size fits all.”
Education becomes more powerful when students are allowed to:

✔️ create
✔️ build
✔️ explore
✔️ communicate
✔️ think differently

Inclusive learning is not about lowering expectations, it is about creating opportunities for every student to succeed in their own way. 💚

Learning happens in many different ways and sometimes the best lessons happen outside the classroom.
Today our students spent time in the garden enjoying activities like archery, teamwork games, and outdoor challenges. These moments help build confidence, communication, patience, focus, and social connection while giving students the opportunity to relax, laugh, and support one another.
Activities like these remind us how important it is to create spaces where students can grow not only academically, but personally and emotionally too.

A visit day to the TUS Campus in Athlone was more than just a trip, it was a glimpse into what the future can look like.
Walking through the campus, asking questions, and experiencing a new environment helped our students see that progression is real and possible. For many, it was a moment to imagine themselves taking the next step, continuing their journey, and building something for their future.
Growth doesn’t happen all at once. It happens in moments like these, when curiosity meets opportunity.
We are proud of every student for showing up, engaging, and allowing themselves to believe that they can go further.
This is just the beginning.
Thanks for all TUS`s family for such a amazing day.

A simple trip can mean so much more.💚
Our visit to Lough Boora was not just about getting out of the classroom, it was about connection, independence, and growth. Surrounded by nature, the students had the opportunity to slow down, reflect, and experience something beyond their daily routine.
Moments like these help build confidence. They encourage decision-making, social interaction, and a sense of responsibility, all essential skills for independent living. Stepping outside a familiar environment allows students to challenge themselves in new ways, support each other, and feel part of something meaningful.

We believe that learning doesn’t only happen in the classroom. It happens in conversations, in shared experiences, in quiet walks, and in small achievements that build stronger, more independent individuals.

Days like this remind us that growth often begins when we step outside.
