With thanks to the support from Waterford Council Arts Office a new film project is being undertaken by Waterford Youth Arts to capture both the history and the social history of what is now called 'The Cultural Quarter'. This time we are doing it a little different in that we will do particular places and stories and over time keep adding to the overall map so that eventually we will have a strong overall picture which can be used by locals and visitors to find out stories about the hidden past of Waterford.
For our purposes we will have a map showing the Cultural Quarter that will include large chunks of both St. Patrick's and the Dominican Catholic Parishes. It will include Patrick Street / Broad Street / John Roberts Square / Georges Street / O'Connell Street / Mary Street and also streets up to the Glen and down to the Quays.
We would welcome any suggestions or inputs for possible people to interview and / or ideas you may have on the project including supporting images - please email [email protected]
All film material will be shot by Keith Currams including his stills.
Here are our first three interviewees and we are very grateful to all who agree to do such interviews: Joan Johnston / Martin O'Mahony / Joe Falvey.

New Film Project

WYA have completed 7 social history films on waterford city and county and on south kilkenny and we are now starting on the 8th such film. https://www.wyafilm.com/social-history?fbclid=IwAR1QP_aADLECj784twuwZXhTVzyRuRH0VBIRu3fj988cXSe9Gj5W8FCM0c4 This film will be slightly different in that we are making a series of short films on the various landmarks and stories associated with particular buildings in what is now known as the Cultural Quarter. Roughly for our project this will include the parishes of St. Patrick’s and The Dominican RC Churches. If you have any suggestions or ideas for this film please contact us at 086-1759188 or email [email protected] This project has been supported by the Arts Office of Waterford City and County Council
