Healthy Ireland Local Government is delighted to announce our participation in the One Health Festival, taking place between November 20th and 27th, 2026, during Irelandโ€™s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Working in association with the All-Ireland One Health Collaborative Network, the One Health Festival brings together colleagues and partners from universities, local authorities and other organisations, all committed to advancing One Health, an integrated and collaborative approach that highlights the deep interconnections between human, animal, plant and ecosystem health.

We are encouraging local authorities to take part in the One Health Festival. With real influence across key One Health areas, from biodiversity and environment to planning and education, local authorities are well placed to showcase their work and its impact to a wider audience.

Applications are now open and welcomed for the One Health Festival for anyone looking to host & contribute.

If you would like to submit an event, you will find more information at: https://ucd.pulse.ly/qb2xxoqgxr

The application closing date is September 11th, 2026.

Each Healthy City or County Programme is delivered through the Local Community Development Committee, through a subgroup made up of an inter-agency partnership from a cross section of key stakeholders including the local community, helping to drive this wellbeing agenda and ensure its prominence within the Local Economic & Community Plan for the City or County.

The work of the Healthy Ireland Coordinator is a collaborative and networking role to encourage implementation of key wellbeing objectives amongst key stakeholders and aligning activity contained within Local Economic & Community Plans ๐Ÿ‘

Welcome to Slรกintecare Healthy Communities ๐Ÿ‘‡

The Slรกintecare Healthy Communities (SHC) Programme is a Healthy Ireland initiative which is part of the Slรกintecare health reform agenda and was developed to improve health outcomes in 23 community areas across Ireland where health inequalities are most evident.

With a focus on prevention the Slรกintecare Action Plan acknowledges directly that there are many groups of people who require tailored health and social care interventions but that health inequalities are compounded by the wider determinants of health and this is where local government can play a pivotal role to help address the non-medical or health care factors that influence health outcomes.
