This week we showcased THRIVE at the New European Bauhaus Festival as part of a vibrant European community shaping a better future.

At the THRIVE stall, visitors explored how Irish urban centers are embracing regeneration that is sustainable, inclusive and beautiful by bringing new life to heritage buildings and creating places where people feel connected and inspired.

From sharing ideas and experiences to connecting with partners from across Europe, the festival highlighted the power of collaboration and creativity in transforming our communities.

THRIVE is about more than projects, it’s about:
• reimagining our town centers
• empowering communities through participation
• delivering lasting, positive change on the ground

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by the stall and joined the conversation. Thanks to colleagues from who showcased their THRIVE projects at the stall.

Together, we are building places that are functional, meaningful, welcoming and full of life.

Competition Deadline Extended! Good news, the Our Ireland, Our EU Photo Competition deadline has been extended to 14 June at midnight!

🇪🇺 The European Commission has published the 2026 European Semester Spring Package, with recommendations to strengthen competitiveness, economic resilience and social cohesion across the EU.

🇮🇪 For Ireland, the priorities include:
🏠 Making housing affordable and boosting construction;
💼 Reducing over-reliance on multinational tax revenues;
🎓 Tackling skills shortages and investing in reskilling;
⚡ Reducing energy import dependency and expanding renewables;
🌿 Accelerating climate action, especially in agriculture;
💶 Improving long-term fiscal sustainability.

It's been a busy few weeks for the planning team!

Our RSES Issues Paper consultation closed last month, marking the end of an active period of engagement across the region.

A sincere thank you to everyone who took the time to make a submission and participated in our events. Your feedback plays an essential role in shaping the future direction of the Southern Region.

Next steps
We now move into the next stage of the process, where the Consultation Report on submissions will be presented to our Members.

THRIVE is making waves internationally! 🌍

Last week, we were delighted to welcome Michael Queale, Principal Heritage Architect with Heritage South Australia , to learn more about the THRIVE scheme and how it supports local authorities in bringing underused and derelict heritage buildings back to life.

The visit was made even more memorable with two inspiring site visits. A big thank you to SDCC for sharing their plans for Castle Stables and Courtyard at Rathfarnham, and to Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council for showcasing the exciting proposals for Georges Place and the Wash House.

What better way to sign off our Europe Day Primary Schools visit initiative than with a visit to 6th Class in St Mary’s NS Bishop Street Limerick City earlier this week, on one of the sunniest days of the year!

Thank you to the students and teachers for welcoming us to the school! It was great to hear some ideas of what the students would spend EU money on with some great ideas on housing, orphanages, parks, cleaning the river for fishing and many more ideas.
