In Waterford City and County Council we want to show our support to everyone living with multiple sclerosis by lighting up buildings across Waterford to mark International MS Day.🧡

By illuminating landmarks across the city, we are helping to raise awareness of MS and the impact it can have on individuals and families. Today is about recognising the strength and resilience of those affected, and the importance of understanding and support within our community.

Waterford City and County Council has further expanded its electric vehicle (EV) fleet with the addition of a new fully electric heavy goods vehicle (HGV), marking another significant step in the local authority’s transition to low-carbon transport solutions.

The Volvo FMX, which is currently being trialled by the Council, has a gross combination weight of 46 tonnes, making it the largest electric vehicle in the Council’s fleet to date. Based at the Carrickphierish depot, the truck has already demonstrated its capabilities by transporting full loads of stone from Kilmacow Quarry and delivering substantial waste loads to the Dunmore East landfill facility.

The addition of the electric truck brings the total number of EVs in the Council’s fleet to 22, with plans to deploy a further 10 electric vehicles before the end of the year.

To support the continued decarbonisation of its fleet, Waterford City and County Council is also investing in a range of new EV charging infrastructure projects. These measures will support the Climate Action Plan targets of reducing energy usage by 50% and greenhouse gas emissions by 51% by 2030.

👏 A wonderful afternoon celebrating the incredible work of Together We Can at a Mayoral Reception.

Since 2019, this dedicated community group has raised over €160,000 for charity, supporting local organisations and families across West Waterford. Their success is made possible by an amazing team of volunteers, supporters and sponsors who give their time so generously.

A special thank you to everyone involved in making Santa at the Strand such a memorable event year after year. Your commitment, kindness and community spirit continue to make a real difference. ❤️

Since its launch in 2014, the Irish Construction Excellence Awards has recognised and celebrated the originality of projects that demonstrate excellence in the built environment.

Waterford City and County Council took home the Fit-Out/Refurbishment Award (up to €1.5m) for 29 The Glen, at the last night's award ceremony in Dublin's Convention Centre.

The refurbishment of 29 The Glen was completed as part of Waterford City and County Council’s ongoing response to dereliction and vacancy within the city and to provide new sustainable social housing units within an existing residential area.

The four quality one-bedroom apartments were allocated to tenants from the Council’s social housing list and as such have helped to ensure the continued support of residential amenity in the local area.

Today is Make Way Day 2026

Make Way Day is a campaign that brings disabled people and the wider community together to consider the needs of disabled people in the public spaces we all share.

The aim is to educate and raise awareness of the needs of people in the public spaces we all share. Make Way Day is about one impactful coordinated and decisive day of action to improve the access of our towns and cities for everyone.

The most reoccurring obstacles are:
-Cars parked on footpaths
-Bins causing obstruction on footpaths
-Bicycles illegally parked

These obstacles make it difficult for everyone, particularly those with disabilities, resulting in journeys being impeded or forcing them onto the road. This campaign calls for us all to be more mindful of others when leaving out the bins, parking the car, or locking up the bicycle.
