Crews backed up our colleagues at Waterford Ambulance Station yesterday for a Medical Assistance call in the city.

We regularly back up the NAS to either gain entry at a property or to supply a crew for casualty extrication from difficult locations.

The road was closed for a matter of time while the extrication took place and for crew and patient safety.

As most are aware at this stage we attended a serious commercial incident in the city last evening into this morning.
Crews battled for many hours to try to contain and stop the fire spread which was vast.
We would like to thank the public for their kind words of support and their help in staying away from the scene and letting us operate safely and also for heeding the public health warnings.
We would also like to thank all the supporting Brigades that attended to augment our response namely, Tramore, Dunmore, Portlaw, Cappaquin, Kilmacthomas and Dungarvan fire stations, and a big thanks to Kilkenny City Fire Brigade for a super response when called upon to help their close neighbours.
We also feel for the 40odd businesse owners that are waking this morning to the loss of their businesses and hope they can rise from the ashes and rebuild.

Just to add any negative or suggestive comments will be deleted and the poster banned. Thank you for understanding.

One of the fundamental basics of Firemanship is the use of Fire Service Ladders.
While we now have the aerial prowess of a TurnTable ladder and a Hydraulic Platform some incidents require the use of a good old ladder.
We carry a variety of ladders on our Appliances.
A basic 21’ triple extension.
A 10.5mtr double extention. Which takes 3 Firefighters to safely slip, pitch and extend to a building.
And the big one a 13.5mtr triple extention which safely takes 4 Firefighters to pitch weighing in at 113kg.

Sad news with the passing of Retired Fulltime Firefighter Stephen Greene yesterday.
Stephen affectionately known as “Greeners” started in the City Retained ranks in the 80’s and Retired from the Fulltime ranks in October 1999. He was one of the first from the City to be trained in the UK in West Yorkshire Training School setting the bar for all that followed.
Not only a Firefighter but Stephen was an accomplished sportsman no matter what sport he put his hands to he excelled, but his one true love was GAA and his club MountSion Gaa where he won an amazing 10 County titles amongst others and also had the honour or representing his beloved county on top of that.
Stephen was also first on the sheet for outings and get togethers and was one of the founding visitors to our twinned Brigade in Aberystwyth in Gwasanaeth Tân ac Achub CGC / MAWW Fire and Rescue in Wales, a friendship spanning 40yrs.Aberystwyth Fire Station/Gorsaf Dan Aberystwyth
Stephen was also instrumental in the refurbishment and delivery of a fleet of Ambulances from Waterford to Belarus in the early 90’s after the Chernobyl disaster. A man that lived to help others in their time of need.
A character and friend that will be dearly missed.
Condolences to his Partner Irene his Son Paul and Daughter Lorraine and his extended family and friends.

Well they have only gone and done it and finished a whopping 2nd place in the event in Hacketstown, Co Carlow yesterday.

Tha qualifies them for the World Championships in Rio De Janeiro later in the year.

Our Extrication Team took on two demanding extraction challenges at this event yesterday, each consisting of a 25-minute scenario, and they delivered an outstanding performance to secure 2nd place out of six teams competing from across Ireland and one international team from Luxembourg.

This was a brilliant team effort, with both Firefighters and Officers representing Waterford City Fire Service as a whole, both Full-Time and Retained Firefighters took part representing their respective Stations of Waterford City, Dungarvan, Cappoquin, and Lismore.

Of course we need to congratulate our own Full-Time Sub Officer Evan Russell and Retained Firefighter Damien Burns on representing Waterford City Fire Station.

A huge credit to everyone involved though– the Training, Dedication and Operational Experience paid off.

Now to start the training again and the delights of Rio De Janeiro await later in the year for the world championships. 🇧🇷 🔥 🚒
