Training continues for our boat crews; the operation of two search boats remains critical. We have our RIB and a purpose-built SRK 525 for flood water response in flooded rivers. Technology also plays a part in the safety of our crew and operational awareness, knowing where our boats are during a training session or operational response. Wexford Civil Defence proudly marked a significant moment of recognition and celebration at the Long Service Medal Presentation held in McKee Barracks, Dublin, on Saturday, 27 June. The event honoured dedicated volunteers from across Ireland, acknowledging their exceptional commitment to community service and national resilience.

During the ceremony, Minister of State Thomas Byrne presented Long Service Medals to two outstanding Wexford Civil Defence volunteers whose dedication spans decades of service.

Gabrille Willis was honoured with a Long Service Medal in recognition of an extraordinary 50 years of voluntary service. Her half‑century of commitment reflects unwavering reliability, leadership, and a profound sense of civic duty. Gabrille has contributed to countless operations, training initiatives, and community supports, shaping the organisation across generations.

Aoife Caulfield received a Long Service Medal marking 30 years of service. Over three decades, Aoife has demonstrated exceptional professionalism, compassion, and steadfast support for Civil Defence activities throughout County Wexford. Her contribution continues to strengthen local emergency response and community resilience.

Civil Defence Officer Peter O'Connor expressed deep appreciation for both volunteers, noting that their long-standing service exemplifies the organisation’s core values of teamwork, public duty, and community care.

Wexford Civil Defence extends heartfelt congratulations to Gabrielle and Aoife on their remarkable achievements and thanks them for their continued dedication to serving the people of County Wexford. Wexford County Council Wexford People

It’s been a very busy week over in Wexford Civil Defence! Last weekend we had medical crews along with Wicklow Civil Defence in Ballinastoe wood providing cover at the mountain biking competitions there. Back in Wexford our Gorey unit was at the Gorey Park Family Bike Fest providing cover there. During the week our trainee EMTs were practicing for their upcoming practical exams.
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend, some of our boat crew, along with members from Carlow Civil Defence, were completing their Advanced Powerboat course. On Saturday also, the warden unit were visiting the EPA to prepare upcoming radiation monitoring, and our New Ross Unit were covering the Hike to Hook.
Last but not least, today our Welfare unit were in Carlow doing their Bulk Catering course!

A lot of ground covered in not very many days! Thank you to everyone who turned out!
