★★★ Schools Environmental Art Competition 2026 ★★★
Congratulations to all the school pupils who entered the Wexford County Council schools art event. This year's theme was wetlands biodiversity. Many thanks to Don Conroy (artist) for judging and to Environmental Awareness Officer at WCC, Cliona Connolly, for devising and running the whole show. The WNFC are very pleased to be involved as an event supporter and sponsor of some prizes (bird boxes). The artwork is fabulous and reveals great observational skills. See samples of the work below from pupils ranging in age from 9 yrs to 17yrs. Work is by Laoise, Jade, Iryna, Ruari, Jake, Holly, Nicole, Darragh, Jessica, Owen, Bailey, Liam, Livia, Rocco, Lucy and Tommy.

*** Club Bioblitz 2026 ***
On Saturday the 14th June the WNFC were guests of the FitzHerbert family at their Woodbrook home and grounds under the Blackstairs in Co Wexford. The weather was kind and the observations were good with final species tallies expected to be in the few hundreds. See a selection of images attached.
Many thanks to Billy and Holly for their hospitality and allowing the Club access to the estate.

For anyone in Enniscorthy this Saturday 13th June , the wonderful Éanna Ní Lamhna will be be hosting two events as part of the Enniscorthy Street Rhythms festival.
The first event is a family friendly biodiversity walk at the Orchard Peace Park 11:30 - 12:30 (Free event) meeting at Presentation Arts Centre
Éanna is sticking around for another event at 14:00 (€10 fee) in the Church Institute 'Éanna goes Wild'. This will surely book up fast - check Event Brite for details!

This year’s World Oceans Day theme, 'Strong Marine Protected Areas for Our Blue Planet', reminds us that healthy oceans are essential for a healthy planet. 🌍

★★★ Between the Showers ★★★
Despite the mixed weather and the coolness, there was some decent butterfly activity nearby. A few Cryptic Wood Whites about (distinguished by the rounded tip to its forewing), and the first Ringlet of the season for this recorder. Most were hugging the tractor pathway soaking in the heat off the clay.

The Great Big All Ireland Hedgehog Count Starts next week!!! For the week 8th to 15th June we are asking people to make an extra effort to look for hedgehogs and report your sightings at hedgehogsireland.com. So take a night time stroll in your garden or park or in the countryside and see what you can see. If you see roadkill hedgehogs, please report those too. Be careful out in the dark and Please don't disturb or pick up hedgehogs!
