18 Bookings, 18 Cancellations… and Still No NCT! 🚗

During a checkpoint in Castlebridge today, Gardaí stopped a vehicle displaying an NCT that had expired almost three years ago.

When questioned, the driver produced a future NCT booking confirmation. However, further checks revealed that the vehicle owner had booked and cancelled NCT appointments 18 times over the past three years without ever presenting the vehicle for testing.

An NCT booking is not a free pass to drive indefinitely with an expired certificate. Vehicle owners are responsible for ensuring their vehicles are roadworthy and tested within the required timeframes.

Regular vehicle testing plays an important role in road safety by helping to identify defects that could put drivers, passengers and other road users at risk. Whether you agree with it or not, it is still one of the legal requirements of driving a car in Ireland.

These are just three of the five fi****ms recently seized by Gardaí in Co. Wexford as part of ongoing enforcement activity.

Gardaí continue to actively identify and seize fi****ms from individuals who do not hold a valid fi****ms certificate. Possessing a firearm without a valid licence is a serious criminal offence and can result in prosecution, the seizure of fi****ms, and disqualification from holding fi****ms certificates in the future.

If you are a fi****ms certificate holder, please ensure your licence remains valid and submit renewal applications well in advance of the expiry date. Leaving renewals until the last minute can lead to avoidable difficulties and may leave you unlawfully in possession of a firearm.

Responsible fi****ms ownership includes ensuring all licences are current, fi****ms are securely stored, and legal obligations are fully complied with.

If in doubt about the status of your fi****ms certificate, contact your local Garda station for advice.

This evening, 2nd of June, Gardaí in Gorey observed an e-scooter travelling at speed along the footpath on Main Street. The e-scooter narrowly avoided colliding with an elderly woman as she exited a shop.

The e-scooter was subsequently seized under Section 109A of the Road Traffic Act for being used on a footpath. The owner must now apply to Gorey District Court for its return. A Fixed Charge Penalty Notice was also issued.

Before using an e-scooter, it is important to understand the legislation governing their use. E-scooters are not permitted on footpaths, where they can pose a serious risk to pedestrians, particularly older people and those with mobility difficulties.

Please use e-scooters responsibly and ensure you are familiar with the rules of the road before setting off. As we have shown recently, there is zero tolerance to the illegal use of these devices as there are too many examples of near misses, collisions, injuries and deaths resulting from the incorrect use of e-scooters.

Checkpoint on the old Dublin Road, Enniscorthy last night as part of our bank holiday policing operation. Deterring criminal activity on our road networks and detecting intoxicated driving is a key function of this operation, with the aim of keeping communities safe.

While on patrol on the main Enniscorthy to Ferns road a short time ago this evening, Gardaí stopped and seized this e-scooter after observing two males travelling on it.

The e-scooter was detained under Section 109A of the Road Traffic Act, which means the owner can apply to have the vehicle released at district court.

E-scooters are designed for one person only. Carrying a passenger significantly increases the risk of losing control, particularly on busy roads, and places both riders and other road users at risk.

Road safety remains a priority, and Gardaí will continue to target dangerous road user behaviour across the county.

Over the Bank Holiday weekend, Gardaí from across the Wexford have been carrying out a high visibility policing operation in areas throughout our area. Today these checkpoints include, as pictured, Boolavogue, Oulart, Ferns and Ballyedmond.

The operation focuses on both road safety and crime prevention, with Gardaí conducting checkpoints, engaging with local communities and carrying out targeted patrols as part of ongoing anti crime initiatives. These patrols aim to deter criminal activity, detect offences and provide reassurance to those living, working and visiting the area.

We would like to thank the public for their cooperation and encourage everyone to continue reporting suspicious activity and travelling safely as we (finally) move through the summer months.
