The good evenings are back and that means getting some much needed hands on practice for our volunteers and our drones.

The drones are an integral part of our operations here in Wicklow and get called upon in cases of missing persons, flooding and other adverse weather where a birds eye view can be very beneficial.

Today our volunteers took part in parades across county Wicklow.

As an organisation we always look forward to St.Patricks Day as we get a chance to get out and meet our community and have a little fun.

Today we recognise and thank the incredible women in Civil Defence who volunteer their time, skills and dedication to support our communities.

Wicklow Civil Defence.

Our volunteers were out once again supporting the community across the county.

During the recent snowfall in the Sally Gap, our crews responded to callouts to assist persons who had become stuck in the snow and required rescuing. Working in challenging conditions, volunteers helped ensure everyone was safely assisted off the mountain roads.

This weekend our crews were on duty at Avondale House, Rathdrum, providing medical cover for the Wicklow Hospice 10km and half Marathon Run.

It was a fantastic event supporting such an important cause, and we were delighted to play our part in helping keep participants safe once again.

A huge thank you to all our volunteers for their continued dedication and teamwork.

⚠️PUBLIC SAFETY MESSAGE - THE SALLY GAP⚠️

Due to heavy snow, ice, and dangerous conditions, the Sally Gap (R759) and Old Military Road to Glencree are currently impassable.

Emergency services are advising against all non-essential travel in the Wicklow Mountains.

Please remember that attempting to travel in these conditions risks the safety of both you and your passengers, as well as the safety of our rescue teams.

These roads will reopen when it is safe to do so.

Our volunteers were busy this evening preparing for the incoming bad weather.

Time and effort has gone into preparations incase our team is called upon and a quick response is required.

Wicklow Civil Defence – Storm Chandra Response

During Storm Chandra, our Civil Defence volunteers responded to multiple calls across the county, assisting Wicklow Fire Service with evacuations, carrying out welfare checks, and setting up and staffing an emergency rest centre in the Pavilion in Aughrim along with the wonderful volunteers of Aughrim Tidy Towns

Once again, our volunteers stepped up in difficult conditions to support those affected and to help keep communities safe.

Civil Defence remains on call as weather conditions continue to be challenging, with further bad weather forecast in the coming days.

A huge thank you to every volunteer who gave their time, skills, and commitment during this response.

Kicking Off January the Right Way

Our year is off to a strong start, with volunteers on duty at the Art O'Neil Pursuit and Challenge, supporting this fantastic event in aid of Dublin-Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team.

A special Thank you goes to Kilkenny Civil Defence for their support in this event that is always greatly appreciated 👏.

It was a privilege to work alongside their teams and members of the Scouting community in 5th Wicklow (Bray) Sea Scout Group showing once again the power of teamwork and shared purpose.

At the same time, we’ve successfully run another Search Responder Course for our new recruits. We’re looking forward to seeing them put their newly learned skills into practice, and a big thank you goes to the instructors who gave their time and expertise to make the course a success.

A great start to the year — teamwork, training, and community support at its best.
