Don't forget—it's Test It Tuesday!

With the school year nearly finished and exam season just around the corner, take 20 seconds today to check your smoke alarm.

🚨 From all of us here at Youghal Fire & Rescue, we would like to wish Billy Farrell the very best of luck as he steps back — not down — from his role as Officer in Charge at Youghal Coast Guard unit . 👏

After 7 years leading the unit, and with nearly 30 years of dedicated service approaching, Billy leaves behind some very big boots to fill. His commitment, experience, and leadership have been a huge asset to the community and to all who served alongside him.

Thankfully, knowing Billy isn’t too far away will be a great comfort to the new replacement if they ever need a hand or a bit of advice!

Best of luck again Billy — and enjoy the evenings without the paperwork 🤣🤟

When was the last time you tested your smoke alarm?
It only takes a few seconds, but it could save your life.
Press the test button today and make sure your alarms are working properly in your home.

A good rule to remember:
Test your smoke alarms once a week and replace batteries when needed. Early warning saves lives.

🚨 Technology Upgrade 🚨

We here at Youghal Fire & Rescue is pleased to announce the rollout of Smart Fire Hydrants across the county and the trial starts in Youghal 😲

These upgraded fire hydrants will feature:

📶 Built-in Wi-Fi
📱 App-controlled access
📍 GPS location tracking
🔒 Password protection for authorised firefighters

When crews arrive at an incident they simply open the hydrant lid and connect to the network “Hydrant_Free_Water” using the station login.

If the hydrant fails to connect, firefighters are advised to try turning it off and on again by closing the lid and reopening it.

Existing yellow hydrant marker plates will remain in place but will now also display the Wi-Fi signal strength and download speed.

Residents are reminded not to park over hydrants as this may interfere with signal strength.

Early feedback suggests the hydrants currently have better Wi-Fi than some homes in the county, which we are assured is purely coincidental.

Further upgrades, including Bluetooth hose connectivity, are expected later this year.
