"What's Up" the Observatory of Eilat and the Arava

The evenings of the 23 and 24 of November the rising Venus and the sinking Jupiter will be almost "touching" a sight worth seeing. It will be very cool if they are visible together through the eyepiece.

How Quickly Does A Supernova Happen?

I was asked the other night about the length of time a supernova takes place. I had to admit I had no idea.
Now I do.

When a massive star reaches the end of its life, it can explode as a supernova. How quickly does this process happen? Support us at: http://www.patreon.com/u...

The Summer sky
is still high above us, shortly the heat will break and the autumn holidays are upon us.
Rosh Ha Shana is beginning on the 13 of September. The New year is also the New Month (Tishrei) meaning the New Moon and the best viewing of the night sky. Beginning on Rosh Ha Shana programs will begin earlier as it is dark earlier and it allows us to catch Saturn and the summer sky at their best.

Succot (Sunday, September 27 and ends in the evening of Sunday, October 4) brings us into the full moon which quickly comes up later and later giving us an early dark sky. Succot nights are great nights to spend sleeping under the stars, rising before the sun to welcome the high winter sky with hot drinks and a tour of Orion and his menagerie.

Perseid Meteor Shower

This year the annual Perseid Meteor Shower takes place during moonless nights just before the New Moon. The peak of the Meteor shower will be on the night of August 12 between Wednesday and Thursday. We will have our program on that night as well as on Thursday night, August 13. What's Up, the Observatory of Eilat and the Arava is hosting a quiet event for families and couples in an especially dark site. Through the night, Eitan Schwartz will be giving shows in English and Hebrew, explaining the meteor shower as well a the special program “A Star is Born” the Birth and life of the stars through the eyepiece of the Telescope.
Although shooting stars (meteors) will be visible the entire night, the big show always begins after midnight and participants are encouraged to stay the night, sleeping under the night sky and waking periodically to observe the Perseids. For additional information call 054 481 9973

13 years ago I purchased my Telescope for my mobile observatory with no previous knowledge of Telescopes. I asked around on various forums and got excellent help from Dr. Yigal Patel the owner of the Cosmos store in Ramat Gan.

We are hurting after a hard summer. The war physically hurt the communities surrounding Gaza and it also drove tourism and other business away from our country. Eilat has had a major wave of cancellations of flights of organised groups for our traditionally busy Winter season.
I am the owner, operator of an educational tourist attraction in southern Israel called "What's Up" the Observatory of Eilat and the Arava. I was taught that "there are no disasters only opportunities for businesses".
My opportunity is to reach out to Schools, Youth groups, Army groups and bringing groups of Jewish and Arab kids together for experiencing the wonders of the night sky together. I will reach out to them when they are in Eilat and the Arava as well as traveling to reach them in other parts of the country.
Please read about my programs and be generous as well as helping me spread the word through out the internet and printed.
