Life in Israel right now feels like living between sirens.

Schools are closed. Kids are home.
Every outing — whether it’s a trip to the park, buying groceries, or even sitting down for Shabbat lunch — is planned around alerts and shelters.

You leave the house wondering:
Will there be a siren before we get there?
During?
Or on the way home?

Sometimes the kids barely notice anymore. Sometimes they do.

But life here doesn’t stop. Families are still trying to live, soldiers are still serving, and thousands of reserve families are trying to manage life at home while their spouses are on the front lines.

Many of these families have already been home with the kids for two weeks or more, and with Pesach vacation coming, it may be several more weeks before schools reopen.

Two years ago we started Help Us Help Israel to respond directly to needs on the ground — delivering supplies, equipment, food, and essentials to soldiers, reserve units, and displaced families.

Right now our focus is helping provide food and gear for soldiers on the front lines, while also supporting their families at home who are trying to manage kids, work, pre-Pesach preparations, and the stress of constant alerts — often with very little sleep.

One simple way to help is by sponsoring a meal for the spouses and families holding things together at home while their loved ones are serving.

Because we work directly with units and families, we can respond quickly when needs arise.

If you’ve been looking for a way to help Israel right now, this is a very real and direct one.

Even $36 or $72 helps us provide food and essentials for a family or supplies for soldiers on the front lines.

After two years in captivity, Rom Braslavski has shared new details about his 2 years as a hostage of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. His story reveals the psychological and physical abuse Israeli hostages face in Gaza.

1. His captors tried to force him to convert to Islam, promising better food if he did. If he read the Quran or fasted during Ramadan, they gave him small “rewards.”

His mother shared: “They tried to tempt him with food and small gifts. He didn’t break down and didn’t do it.”

2. Rom was held above ground for much of his captivity, held both alone and with other hostages. He was beaten and starved. His mother shared: “Several times a day, they would beat him with a whip and with things that I will not even mention. He absorbed it.”

3. Before releasing him, his captors forced him to eat large amounts of food so he would appear less thin and emaciated, despite this being extremely dangerous following a long period of starvation.

4. His captors lied to him that the Iranian regime had wiped Israel off the map.

5. He revealed that he saw murdered hostages in Gaza before he was released, highlighting necessity of bringing all the murdered hostages home. His mother revealed that he told her the following: “Hamas knows where they [the murdered hostages] are. Bring them home, and then I can say I’m back."

6. While in captivity, Rom had to hide that he was still fulfilling his mandatory military service in the IDF. This fact was disclosed only after their return.

Rom’s testimony is one of strength and survival, but also a reminder of the horror still faced by those who haven’t come home.
