Dog-assisted therapy has long been part of Shebaās approach to rehabilitation and mental health care. Originally introduced as a pilot, the program became permanent following positive patient feedback and the meaningful benefits observed during treatment.
A distinctive feature of Shebaās program is that the therapy dogs are owned by the medical center rather than external providers. This allows them to be consistently integrated into patient care and become familiar members of the therapeutic environment, working alongside professionals trained to incorporate them into treatment.
During rehabilitation, their calming presence and guided interactions can help patients cope with pain and stress as they progress through recovery. In mental health settings, therapy dogs can also support patients facing trauma, anxiety, and other complex conditions by fostering a sense of calm, control, and connection.
Sheba, Churchill, Ginger, Bella, and Pitzki join us in wishing you and your beloved four-legged companions a happy International Dog Day! š¶
