Today, the Ambassador was back in the Gaza Envelope, almost 3 years after October 7, to see how the recovery is going. The pain and the trauma are still very present. The communities are healing, but slowly. Grateful to Rita Li****tz for hosting the embassy team in Nir Oz and sharing her message of peace. In Be'eri, where a Swiss citizen was among those killed on October 7, new homes are being built, a small sign of recovery.

Today is the day!😁Finally.. back to school in Israel!
And in Switzerland – it is not quite the same everywhere! Here are a few interesting facts about the Swiss school system:
Did you know that there is no single “back to school” date for the whole of Switzerland?
26 cantons, 26 different school systems!
Education is mainly the responsibility of the cantons, not of the federal government.
School holidays are cantonal too!
Four national languages – and different school cultures!
Switzerland’s education system reflects its multilingual and federal structure. German, French, Italian and Romansh-speaking regions can have quite different educational traditions.
If in Israel or in Switzerland: We wish all kids and teenagers a super cool and successful start! ☘

Today, our Ambassador spoke on the morning panel at the Swiss Ambassadors' Conference in Bern on "World Disorder: Scope for Action for Switzerland amid the Contest of Spheres of Influence". He welcomed the fact that Swiss foreign policy is now facing reality as it is, and not as it would like it to be. He underlined that Switzerland has agency and strategic independence.

In the afternoon, Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul addressed the Swiss ambassadors.

The day before the start of the annual ambassadors conference, our Ambassador traditionally goes hiking. This time to the Walopsee in his home Canton of Bern. A tough, steep climb – all alone, no shortcuts, uncertain footing – but a clear goal in mind. Then the mountain pasture and beautiful lake open up. Not a bad metaphor for diplomacy either.

The Ambassador, his wife and the embassy team welcomed this year's new young Swiss citizens to the Residence for our annual Jungbürgerfeier, a lovely tradition celebrating Swiss turning 18. It was wonderful to see so many bright faces, share some good conversation and offer a bit of advice along the way. Congratulations to Eylon, our Swiss quiz champion, who took home a jar of our very own Swiss Residence Honey! With over 25,000 members, our Swiss community here is one of the largest in the world.

Did you know that Israel has a surprisingly active thunderstorm season? ⛈️ Research from Tel Aviv University | אוניברסיטת תל-אביב shows that winter thunderstorms are a regular part of Israel’s rainy season, especially when strong Mediterranean weather systems move in. So while Israel is famous for its sunshine, winter can be a very different story: dramatic clouds, heavy rain, thunder and lightning! ⚡🌧️almost like in Switzerland ⚡️And did you know, that Switzerland helps detect those storms before they are visible from Earth? To better anticipate extreme weather, scientists now monitor the atmosphere continuously from space. Europe’s MTG satellite, developed under the ESA - European Space Agency provides more frequent and detailed data than previous systems. At the core of this technology is a Swiss-developed (CSEM) mechanism that ensures exceptional stability of the satellite’s instruments. This precision allows scientists to detect subtle atmospheric changes that would otherwise remain invisible. The first data is already being used by meteorological services, helping improve early warning systems and allowing authorities more time to prepare for extreme weather events. 📸 a thunderstorm in the sky of Switzerland and a thunderstorm just over the dead sea.
