Mayor Zohran Mamdani Should Engage in Dialogue with Shri Mohan Bhagwat: All India Pasmanda Muslim Mahaz
Dialogue and Direct Engagement Are Essential in the Interest of Indian Muslims
New Delhi | The All India Pasmanda Muslim Mahaz, through its National President Mr. Parvez Hanif and CEO Mr. Muhammad Yunus, has appealed to New York Mayor Mr. Zohran Mamdani to meet RSS Sarsanghchalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat, who is visiting the United States and is scheduled to address the “Universal Oneness Celebration” at Madison Square Garden, New York, on 29 August 2026.
The Mahaz urged Mayor Mamdani to place his questions and concerns regarding India, Indian Muslims and social harmony directly before Shri Bhagwat.
National President Mr. Parvez Hanif said:
«“We urge Mayor Zohran Mamdani to meet Shri Mohan Bhagwat and place before him directly the questions and concerns he has regarding Indian Muslims. In a democracy, dialogue does not mean agreement; it means listening to and understanding one another.”»
Mr. Hanif said that Muslims in India face genuine difficulties and challenges that must be addressed, but the complete reality of Indian Muslims cannot be understood solely through negative reports or isolated incidents. He added that millions of Indian Muslims contribute to the country’s social, economic, educational and national life.
He further said that dialogue with the RSS and Shri Mohan Bhagwat is equally important. “We believe that Shri Mohan Bhagwat has spoken on various occasions about social harmony and dialogue. Respect for an individual and disagreement with his views should be kept separate.”
CEO Mr. Muhammad Yunus said that Mayor Mamdani should choose dialogue instead of confrontation:
«“If you have serious concerns about Indian Muslims, place those concerns directly before Shri Mohan Bhagwat. Ask difficult questions, express your disagreement and listen to his views as well. This is democratic dialogue.”»
Mr. Yunus said that information about India reaching people abroad does not always present the complete picture. “Muslims in India are facing difficulties, and we raise our voice for their socio-economic advancement and rights. However, to understand the real India, it is also necessary to engage with ordinary Indian Muslims, Pasmanda Muslims and people holding diverse views.”
The Mahaz said that opposition to Shri Mohan Bhagwat’s programme is a democratic right, but it should remain peaceful and respectful and should not become a means of hatred, insult or social division.
The Mahaz reiterated that its objective is to promote education, employment, social dignity, economic development and equal opportunities for Pasmanda Muslims, while strengthening social harmony and equality for all citizens.
«“We want the politics of dialogue, not hatred. We want conversation, not confrontation. We stand not against any community, but for equal rights and dignity for all citizens.”»
The Mahaz jointly appealed to Mayor Mamdani:
«“Mr. Mamdani, Shri Mohan Bhagwat has come to your city. Meet him, place your questions before him, listen to his views and present your own. Such a dialogue may remove misunderstandings and open a new path to understanding India and Indian society.”»
The All India Pasmanda Muslim Mahaz believes that strengthening India’s diversity, democracy, social justice and national unity requires mutual respect, direct engagement and continuous dialogue.
