From Classroom Learning to Real-World Experience | Assam Don Bosco University Students Visit Guwahati Biotech Park

Guwahati Biotech Park successfully hosted an Industrial Exposure and Learning Programme for students of the Department of Zoology, Assam Don Bosco University on 21st August 2026.

The programme was designed to connect academic learning with practical exposure in fisheries, aquarium fish keeping, aquaculture, biotechnology and entrepreneurship at the Business Incubation Centre for Fisheries and Aquaculture (BICFA), GBP . The day-long programme included expert-led classes, interactive discussions and guided tours of GBPโ€™s facilities.

Expert Classes & Interactive Learning

The programme began with a comprehensive session on Scientific fish culture techniques, Fisheries Management & Aquarium Preparation, Disease Management etc. conducted by Mr. Nabajyoti Das, Project Associate, BICFA.

The students were then introduced to the exciting possibilities of Fish Entrepreneurship & Business Opportunities in the North Eastern Region by Dr. Bula Choudhury, Senior Scientist, GBP, covering ornamental fish culture, aquarium business, value addition, market potential and entrepreneurship models for youth.

A dedicated session on Instrumentation Support at GBP was delivered by Dr. Rajiv Chandra Dev Goswami, Research Associate, GBP, highlighting the scientific and analytical support available for fisheries and aquaculture-related activities. Finally Mr Abinash Kumar, Asst. Managaer, NE Cell, NRDC briefed students about IPR and Technology transfer process, handled by NRDC.

Hands-on Exposure & Facility Tour

The students undertook a broader facility tour of Guwahati Biotech Park and the Incubate Lab Division, gaining an overview of the infrastructure and ecosystem supporting biotechnology, innovation, research and entrepreneurship at GBP. Same continued with a guided visit to the Biofloc and Aquaculture Facility of BICFA, providing students with practical exposure to modern aquaculture systems.

The programme provided students with an opportunity to move โ€œBeyond the Classroomโ€โ€”understanding how scientific knowledge, practical skills, analytical facilities and incubation support can translate into entrepreneurship, innovation and career opportunities.

BICFAโ€™s Scientific Intervention in Fisheries & Aquaculture sector

Business Incubation Centre for Fisheries and Aquaculture (BICFA), Guwahati Biotech Park in collaboration with the Deptt. of Fisheries, Govt. of Assam, Kamrup, conducted a joint fish pond inspection on 8th August, 2026 at 3 No. C Lower Brahmaputra Meen Mahal Cooperative Society Ltd., Amingaon, Kamrup, Assam.

The team comprises

1. Mr. Nabajyoti Das, Project Association, BICFA, GBP

2. Ms. Himashri Choudhury, FD, Deptt. of Fisheries, Kamrup

3. Mr. Malakar, FD, Deptt. of Fisheries, Kamrup

The BICFA team provided field-level technical guidance and remedial recommendations on water quality management, feeding practices, fish health monitoring, pond management, stocking density and improving fish growth, survival and productivity.

Through such field interventions, BICFA continues to support farmers and fisheries stakeholders in adopting scientific, sustainable and productive aquaculture practices in Assam and NE Region of India.

๐ŸŒฟ Strengthening Scientific Collaboration Across Northeast India

Guwahati Biotech Park (GBP) is pleased to highlight an important step towards strengthening scientific and institutional collaboration across the Northeast.

On 5 August 2026, Dr. Bula Choudhury, Senior Scientist, Guwahati Biotech Park, visited the DBT-APSCS&T Centre of Excellence for Bio-resources and Sustainable Development (CBRSD), Kimin, Papum Pare District, Arunachal Pradesh, where she delivered a scientific talk and interacted with scientists and officials of the Centre.

The Centre is a visionary initiative of the Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science & Technology (APSCS&T), Department of Science and Technology, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, established in 2018 with support from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India.

During the visit, Dr. Choudhury held a strategic discussion with Dr. Tage Taki, Chairman, DBT-APSCS&T, on strengthening institutional collaborations for entrepreneurial ecosystem development in Northeast India, with a focus on the sustainable utilisation of native bioresources and traditional knowledge.

The Assam Biotechnology Council (ABTC), Technology Incubation Centre, Guwahati Biotech Park, invites applications under the Lease Rental Subsidy (LRS) scheme to support start-ups in the Life Sciences & Allied Sector incubating in incubation centres across Assam.

The scheme aims to ease the rental burden on eligible start-ups and provide financial support during their incubation journey.

Guwahati Biotech Park (GBP) proudly congratulates Ms. C. Phemsho Konyak, Ms. Vipeni Chophy, and Ms. Neeha Das from St. Joseph University, Nagaland, on the successful completion of their one-month internship programme.

During their internship, the young researchers gained intensive hands-on exposure to:

APEDP is a flagship initiative of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh that nurtures entrepreneurship through pre-incubation, incubation, mentorship, capacity building, and seed funding support. Under APEDP 5.0, 100 innovative startups have been selected, with the top 20 startups receiving โ‚น10 lakh each and the next 80 startups receiving โ‚น8 lakh each, enabling aspiring entrepreneurs to transform innovative ideas into impactful businesses.
