Training & Exposure Visit to CALF Lab, NDDB, Anand, Gujarat

Officials from Guwahati Biotech Park (GBP) — Dr. Saurav Dey, Scientist; Ms. Monsumi Gogoi, Administrative Officer; and Dr. Prajjalendra Barooah, Research Associate — participated in a training and exposure visit to the Centre for Analysis and Learning in Livestock and Food (CALF) Laboratory of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Anand, Gujarat, a premier NABL-accredited food testing laboratory, on 13th–14th May 2026 to learn best practices for laboratory testing of quality honey and related food products.

Established by NDDB in 2009, CALF initially focused on testing animal feed, milk, and milk products and has since expanded into a state-of-the-art facility for testing contaminants, honey, edible oils, fruits, vegetables, beverages, nutraceuticals, and more. In February 2023, it was incorporated as NDDB CALF Limited, a 100% subsidiary of NDDB.

During the visit, the team explored the advanced facilities and scientific instruments available at the CALF Lab, NDDB, gaining valuable insights into quality testing protocols and analytical methodologies. They also interacted with in-house scientists and technical staff to discuss operational best practices and explore avenues of association with GBP for strengthening testing capabilities at the Regional Honey Testing Laboratory (RHTL), GBP.

The visit served as a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and exploring collaborative opportunities to enhance quality testing infrastructure and services at GBP.

We are pleased to share that Dr. Bula Choudhury, Senior Scientist, Guwahati Biotech Park (GBP), participated in the Working Group for Gender Equity (WGGE) session during the 44th Annual Meeting of the Astronomical Society of India (ASI) held on 18th May 2026 at IIT Guwahati.

As an invited plenary speaker, Dr. Choudhury delivered a talk on “Gender Equity: Challenges and Pathways Forward”, highlighting the importance of inclusive scientific ecosystems, equal opportunities, and policy support to strengthen women’s participation and leadership in STEM.

🚀 Fostering Innovation & Entrepreneurial Spirit!

The School of Agro and Rural Technology, at Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, successfully organized the Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship (IDE) Bootcamp from April 20–24, 2026. Supported by the All India Council for Technical Education, the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell, Wadhwani Foundation, and SBI Foundation, the five-day residential bootcamp brought together student innovators and aspiring entrepreneurs from institutions across the country.

The programme provided an enriching platform for participants to engage in innovation, design thinking, and entrepreneurship, fostering creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving.

We are proud to share that Smt. Monsumi Gogoi, Centre Coordinator, NIDHI PRAYAS Centre, Guwahati Biotech Park, attended the final pitching session on April 24, 2026, as a Jury Member, interacting with participants and evaluating the innovative ideas presented by the teams. The session showcased several promising solutions developed through intensive learning, teamwork, and design thinking during the five-day programme.

Internship Completion at Guwahati Biotech Park

We congratulate Mr. Jheel Paul, B.Tech Biotechnology student from Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on the successful completion of his internship programme on “Herbal Extraction, Phytochemical analsis and Applications of Advanced Instrumentations in Biotechnology” conducted from 11th May to 22nd May, 2026 at GBP.

The internship was conducted under the expert supervision of Dr. Bula Choudhury, Senior Scientist, GBP and Dr. Rajiv Chandra Dev Goswami, Research Associate, GBP .

During the internship, Mr Paul gained hands-on exposure to advanced analytical instruments based biomolecular profiling of phytochemicals & analysis, herbal extraction procedures, proximate analysis of samples. The programme aimed at strengthening practical research skills and analytical understanding in the area of natural products and phytochemical analysis.

Exposure Visit to BioNest at VentureStudio, Ahmedabad University

During the visit, the team explored the various state-of-the-art facilities and scientific instruments available at the Ahmedabad centre. They also interacted with in-house startups to gain insights into the innovation ecosystem and discussed the potential scope of facility utilization and collaborative opportunities for GBP incubatees.

Exposure-cum-Laboratory Visit by Students of Food Nutrition & Dietetics, Assam down town University to TIC-GBP

We were delighted to host the students from the Department of Food Nutrition & Dietetics, Assam down town University, for an Exposure-cum-Laboratory Visit to the Technology Incubation Centre (TIC), Guwahati Biotech Park (GBP) on 20th May 2026.

During the visit, the students were introduced to the various scientific facilities and laboratory infrastructure available at TIC-GBP. They received hands-on exposure and demonstrations of advanced laboratory instruments, along with insights into the ongoing research, innovation, and technological activities being undertaken at the centre.

The students also visited the incubatee laboratories in the Modular Laboratory Division, where they gained valuable insights into biotechnology-based startups, food and nutrition research, product development activities, and entrepreneurship opportunities in the biotechnology sector.

Such academic exposure visits play a vital role in bridging theoretical learning with practical applications, while inspiring young minds towards research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Free Ayurvedic Health Check-Up Camp at GBP

Guwahati Biotech Park successfully hosted a Free Ayurvedic Health Check-Up Camp on 19th May 2026, organized by Zeroharm Sciences Private Limited, Guwahati, with enthusiastic participation from the GBP community.

The camp was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Biswajit Das, MD (Ay), PhD, Ayurvedic Gastroenterology Specialist and Associate Professor, Government Ayurvedic College & Hospital, Guwahati, along with his medical team.

Participants benefited from health consultations and wellness screenings, including blood investigations, spirometry tests, detox evaluation, and guidance on gastroenterology, respiratory health, thyroid care, hormonal balance, fertility wellness, and holistic healthcare.

The initiative promoted preventive healthcare awareness, healthy lifestyle practices, and overall well-being among GBP staff and employees.

Guwahati Biotech Park was pleased to host the students of the 2nd and 4th Semester, Department of Zoology, Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Visvavidyalaya, Nasatra, Sarthebari, Barpeta, Assam, along with their faculty members, for an Educational & Academic Exposure Visit to the Technology Incubation Centre (TIC) and laboratory facilities on 19th May 2026.

The visit provided students with firsthand exposure to modern laboratory techniques, advanced scientific instruments, and research activities in biotechnology and life sciences. Exploring Innovation & Strengthening Incubation Ecosystems 🚀

Officials from the NIDHI PRAYAS Centre, Guwahati Biotech Park (GBP) visited the NIDHI PRAYAS Centre at VentureStudio, the official startup incubator and innovation hub of Ahmedabad University, on 11th May 2026 to gain insights into best practices in startup incubation and innovation support.

The visiting team comprised Dr. Saurav Dey, Scientist, Ms. Monsumi Gogoi, Centre Coordinator, NIDHI PRAYAS Centre, and Dr. Prajjalendra Barooah, Research Associate, GBP.

During the visit, the team explored the various state-of-the-art facilities, advanced instruments, and innovation support infrastructure available at the Ahmedabad centre. Meaningful interactions were also held with in-house startups to understand their journey, challenges, and incubation experiences.

Discussions focused on the scope for utilization of facilities and opportunities by incubatees and PRAYASEEs of Guwahati Biotech Park, fostering knowledge exchange and exploring pathways for strengthening the startup ecosystem through collaboration and shared learning.

Guwahati Biotech Park (GBP) was delighted to welcome Dr. Nayanjyoti Goswami, Managing Director, Assam Innovation and Startup Foundation (AISF); Mr. Omkarnath S. Rath, COO, Assam Startup – The NEST; and Mr. Kankan Jyoti Kharghoria, Senior Manager, AISF, on 14 May 2026.

The visit included an interactive tour of GBP’s facilities and discussions on strengthening innovation, incubation, entrepreneurship, and startup support in Assam and the North Eastern Region. Dr. Bula Choudhury, Senior Scientist, GBP, presented the park’s initiatives in biotechnology entrepreneurship, skill development, startup mentoring, and ongoing activities under BICFA and SSC.
