Remembering Dr. Fayaz Ahmad Khan on His 11th Death Anniversary.
Bichda kuch is tarah se ki rut hi badal gaya,
Ek shaks saare shehar ko veeraan kar gaya…
Today we remember Dr. Fayaz Ahmad Khan, who left this world on 14 February 2014, yet continues to live in our prayers, memories, and hearts.
Born in Ranbirpora, Mattan Martand (Anantnag) into a humble family, his life was a story of hard work, sincerity, and devotion to knowledge. After qualifying the CET in 1988, he joined Government Medical College Srinagar, where he spent his formative years, including nearly six years in the Bemina Medical Hostel. He later completed his house job at CD Hospital and in the Department of Medicine at GMC Srinagar.
With a deep passion for medicine, he went on to serve as Junior Resident at SKIMS, and in 1997 he was selected for postgraduate studies in medicine. During this period, he also began his family life. His academic journey then took him to PGIMER Chandigarh, where he pursued his DM in Neurology — a proud milestone achieved through perseverance and brilliance.
On returning to Kashmir, he was posted at SMHS Hospital, where he served patients with rare compassion and dedication. Tall, graceful, soft-spoken, and gentle by nature, he had a presence that comforted the suffering and earned respect from colleagues and students alike.
Just when life seemed to reward his years of struggle, he was diagnosed with bronchogenic carcinoma , despite being a non-smoker. He fought the disease bravely for more than a year, enduring repeated radiotherapy and chemotherapy with patience and faith.
On 14 February 2014, at only 45, he left this world, leaving behind his wife, two daughters, and a void that still feels impossible to fill. His journey reminds us how fragile life is, and how the best among us are often called back too soon.
May Allah forgive him, illuminate his grave, grant him the highest place in Jannah, and give sabr to his family.
Kindly remember him in your prayers and recite Surah Fatiha for his soul.
Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
