Why GMC Anantnag Needs a Heart Transplant of Its Own

The tragic passing of 35-year-old Bilal Ahmad Mir at GMC Anantnag is not just a medical statistic; it is a profound failure of the compact between a state and its citizens. When a road accident victim is brought to a premier health facility, every second is a battle between life and death. For Bilal’s family, that battle was lost not to his injuries, but to a perceived void of accountability and professional urgency.

While the administration hides behind the clinical language of "SOPs" and "ATLS protocols," the cries of the bereaved tell a different story—one of empty corridors, absent specialists, and agonizing delays in basic diagnostics. A three-member inquiry committee has been formed, but for the people of South Kashmir, "inquiry" has become a synonym for "delay."
We don't need a report to tell us that our healthcare infrastructure is gasping for air.

We need accountability that bites. We need a system where a casualty ward is actually staffed to handle casualties. The reputation of GMC Anantnag is in tatters, and it won't be mended by paperwork, but by the visible presence of empathy and efficiency. Justice for Bilal means ensuring that the next family through those doors isn't met with a closed ward or a silent machine.

Growing up in Anantnag, I remember the scent of rain used to be a blessing. Today, for the residents of Anantnag, it’s a nightmare. Decades have passed, governments have swapped seats from PDP to JKNC and now the current regime but the story of our streets remains unchanged.

Whether it is the chaotic lanes of Achabal Adda, the busy stretches of Janglat Mandi, or the historic Reshi Bazar and Mehndi Kadal, the drainage system is a relic of the past that failed long ago. It is heartbreaking to see that despite repeated pleas to the concerned departments, a mere thirty minutes of rain turns our commercial hubs into stagnant pools.

Why has no one ever treated Anantnag as their own?

We see tall claims of development on paper, but the reality is under our feet clogged, overflowing, and neglected. Our youth deserve a city that breathes, not one that chokes every time the clouds gather. We aren't asking for miracles; we are asking for basic dignity. It’s time the authorities stop giving us excuses and start giving us functional infrastructure.

We’ve stayed silent for too long. If the drains won't clear, our voices must.

Last night, GMC Associated Hospital, Janglat Mandi lost a young life. Not to an incurable disease, but to an empty chair. Admitted at 6 PM at the GMC associated hospital, the family waited just waited until 11 PM for a specialist doctor who never arrived. The official cause of death will be written in a file. The real cause was absence.

I am not just reporting this as an activist; I am a witness. Walk through these corridors after 4 PM. The senior specialists vanish. The night shift is a ghost town of overworked juniors and empty promises. Our Health Minister visits, orders an "inquiry," and we all know the result: Zero. A file gathers dust, and the next family cries and what of the grand inauguration? An MRI machine that stands like a museum piece. The ribbon was cut, the cameras flashed, but the machine hasn't hummed once. What is the point of a healthcare ribbon if there is no healthcare inside?

Our medical institutions lack paramedics. Specialists are a 10 to 4 luxury in a 24-hour emergency. If the government has any conscience left, mandate that every senior specialist must stay within the hospital premises 24x7. Health doesn't clock out at 4 PM, and neither should life-saving expertise.

I had the privilege of visiting the holy shrine of Hazrat Baba Hyder Reshi (RA) in Anantnag, Kashmir, during his annual Urs. What I witnessed was not just a religious gathering—it was a living example of unity, compassion, and shared humanity.

People stood side by side, offering respects to a saint who preached vegetarianism, simplicity, and selfless service. For six days, the entire town observes a beautiful tradition: no meat is sold, and all are welcomed to communal kitchens that serve only vegetarian food.

In a world often divided by faith and politics, this Urs stands as a powerful reminder that love transcends boundaries.
Let us learn from Baba Hyder Reshi. Let us serve without discrimination, respect all beliefs, and build bridges, not walls. Peace is possible—it begins with small acts of harmony, right where we stand.

May we all walk the path of unity.

Youth lost his life at GMC Anantnag – family alleges negligence & absent medical staff

A young life lost. Family says no doctor was available when they reached the hospital. By the time anyone responded, it was too late.

This isn't a rumor. This is their reality.

When will our hospitals have doctors on duty 24/7? How many more families have to suffer before something changes?

We demand:
Immediate inquiry into this case
Action against absent staff
Accountability at every level

Awami Ittehad Party Appeals to Government of India for Humanitarian Release of Er. Rashid

In an emergency meeting of the executive body of the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), a unanimous decision was taken to appeal to the Government of India for the immediate release of Er. Rashid on humanitarian grounds.

The party stated that Er. Rashid’s elderly father is currently on his death bed, battling critical illness. In these final hours, humanity demands that a son be allowed to meet his ailing, dying father.

“At least let Er. Rashid see his father one last time,” the party resolution read, emphasizing that compassion and human dignity must rise above political differences.

The AIP has urged the central government to intervene promptly and grant Er. Rashid temporary or interim release so that he can fulfill his filial duties during this family tragedy.
