Subject: Representation regarding the impact of proposed Vailoo–Singhpora Tunnel on Village Dessu Daksum
Hon’ble Sir,
With utmost respect and humble submission, we the residents of Village Dessu Daksum, Tehsil Larnoo, District Anantnag, wish to bring to your kind notice the grave concerns and hardships being faced by our village due to past and proposed developmental projects.
It is submitted that around two decades ago, during the widening of the National Highway passing through our village, the inhabitants of Dessu Daksum made great sacrifices for the cause of development. Our milkayat land, residential houses, walnut trees, and other valuable assets were acquired, leaving many families economically weak and struggling. The compensation provided at that time was very meagre and insufficient to restore our lost livelihoods.
Despite suffering such losses, we accepted the situation in the larger interest of public welfare. Over the years, the movement of vehicles and tourists through our village became a lifeline for survival. Small businesses, roadside shops, and transport-related activities provided some relief to our unemployed youth and poor families.
However, the recent announcement of the Vailoo–Singhpora Tunnel has come as a great shock and distress to the entire village. The proposed tunnel is expected to bypass our area, which may result in a significant decline in traffic flow through Dessu Daksum, thereby destroying the only remaining source of livelihood for many families.
Sir, it is deeply painful that the people of Dessu Daksum, who have already sacrificed their land and homes for development, are once again being pushed towards poverty, uncertainty, and helplessness. The majority of our population belongs to economically weaker sections, and we feel powerless and unheard in the face of such decisions.
In view of the above, we humbly request your kind intervention and appeal for justice. We request:
1..A fair assessment of the socio-economic impact of the proposed tunnel on our village.
2..Provision of a special relief, rehabilitation, or compensation package for affected families.
3..Creation of sustainable employment opportunities for local youth.
4..Development of Dessu Daksum as a tourist hub or designated stop point to ensure continued economic activity.
We sincerely hope that your esteemed office will take a compassionate view of our plight and ensure that the poor and marginalized people of our village are not left behind in the path of development.
With great hope and respect.
Yours faithfully,Residents of Village Dessu DaksumTehsil Larnoo, District Anantnag.
