The Shri Someshwar Nath Mahadev Mandir Nayash Samiti-Areraj was set up in 21 Aug 2006. The main objective of the trust is to provide for better management and governance of the holy Shiva's Mandir and its endowments including the appurtenant lands and buildings.

The historic Someshwar Nath Mahadev Temple in Areraj is the oldest and most famous pilgrimage site in North Bihar, located 30 kilometers south of Motihari on the banks of the Gandak River. During the month of Sawan and other festivals, millions of devotees from across the country and nearby Nepal come here. A fair is also held during Shravan. It has become a popular destination for tourists. There is no rail route available to reach here, so you must travel by road. The bus frequency is quite good, with buses available approximately every 25 minutes. It takes about 30-35 minutes to reach Areraj. Areraj is an educational hub in East Champaran, and it can be considered a small BHU (Banaras Hindu University) due to the presence of multiple educational institutions within the same campus. It is a spiritual city with famous religious sites such as Jalpa Bhawani, Mansa Mata, Gayatri Temple, Bhairav Temple, and Govindganj Ghat. The most significant is the "Someshwar Nath" Temple, which is very renowned. During the month of Shravan (August), many Shiva devotees come for darshan, and throughout the month, authorities have to make arrangements for the large crowds. यहाँ पहुँचने के लिए कोई रेल मार्ग उपलब्ध नहीं है, इसलिए यहाँ पहुँचने के लिए आपको सिर्फ़ सड़क मार्ग से ही जाना होगा। बस की आवृत्ति बहुत अच्छी है, जो हर 25 मिनट (लगभग) के बाद उपलब्ध है। अरेराज पहुँचने में लगभग 30-35 मिनट लगते हैं। अरेराज पूर्वी चंपारण में एक शैक्षणिक केंद्र है। हम इसे एक छोटा बीएचयू कह सकते हैं क्योंकि यहाँ एक ही परिसर में कई शैक्षणिक संस्थान स्थित हैं।
यह एक आध्यात्मिक शहर है। यहाँ जलपा भवानी, मनसा माता, गायत्री मंदिर, भैरव मंदिर, गोविंदगंज घाट जैसे प्रसिद्ध धार्मिक स्थल हैं और सबसे महत्वपूर्ण "सोमेश्वर नाथ" मंदिर यहाँ है, जो बहुत प्रसिद्ध मंदिर है। श्रावण (अगस्त) के महीने में, बहुत सारे शिव भक्त यहाँ दर्शन करने आते हैं और पूरे महीने अधिकारियों को लोगों के लिए व्यवस्था करनी पड़ती है क्योंकि इस शुभ महीने के दौरान यहाँ बहुत भीड़ होती है।
सोमवार और शुक्रवार को भीड़ और भी बढ़ जाती है, क्योंकि ये दिन शिव भक्तों के लिए पवित्र दिन माने जाते हैं।
