“And if you give yourself to the hungry
And satisfy the desire of the afflicted,
Then your light will rise in darkness
And your gloom will become like midday”.
Today our small initiative to distribute food packets to the poor and needy people who are deprived of the basic amenities of life took us to the Municipal Corporation office in Asansol Bazaar. The main objective of the program was to provide relief in the form of food packets to the poor and destitute masses so that they too were a part of the festivities during this most auspicious month of the Eastern region of India.
Our simple goal was to help the children and destitutes to reach out our hands to those who are unable to access meals or cannot get all meals required in a day for healthy growth and development. Every night, one out of seven people on the planet go to bed hungry. As the Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated the poverty and hunger crisis, the situation in India looks particularly grim.
Hunger is a complex problem with many root causes, including world hunger, poverty, conflict, and climate change. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, but there are things that we can all do to help bring an end to — and opportunities to create systemic change. With this motto, Thori Si Khushi ventured out to distribute food packets to the underprivileged. The lesson we can all learn and teach others from this massive problem is to remember that each and every one of us can do something about it is to combat food waste. When we waste food, we waste the potential to create a more equitable and sustainable world.
“Throwing away food is like stealing from the table of those who are poor and hungry.”
“When a poor person dies of hunger, it has not happened because God did not take care of him or her. It has happened because neither you nor I wanted to give that person what he or she needed.”
