“And if you give yourself to the hungry

And satisfy the desire of the afflicted,

Then your light will rise in darkness

And your gloom will become like midday”.

Today our small initiative to distribute food packets to the poor and needy people who are deprived of the basic amenities of life took us to the Municipal Corporation office in Asansol Bazaar. The main objective of the program was to provide relief in the form of food packets to the poor and destitute masses so that they too were a part of the festivities during this most auspicious month of the Eastern region of India.

Our simple goal was to help the children and destitutes to reach out our hands to those who are unable to access meals or cannot get all meals required in a day for healthy growth and development. Every night, one out of seven people on the planet go to bed hungry. As the Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated the poverty and hunger crisis, the situation in India looks particularly grim.

Hunger is a complex problem with many root causes, including world hunger, poverty, conflict, and climate change. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, but there are things that we can all do to help bring an end to — and opportunities to create systemic change. With this motto, Thori Si Khushi ventured out to distribute food packets to the underprivileged. The lesson we can all learn and teach others from this massive problem is to remember that each and every one of us can do something about it is to combat food waste. When we waste food, we waste the potential to create a more equitable and sustainable world.

“Throwing away food is like stealing from the table of those who are poor and hungry.”

“When a poor person dies of hunger, it has not happened because God did not take care of him or her. It has happened because neither you nor I wanted to give that person what he or she needed.”

PROGRAMME NO. 2. DATE : 27.09.2024
LOCATION: Jai Prakash Institute of social change. Ismail.
“Every child deserves a place to call home. Empathy knows no boundaries. Let’s stand together for the underprivileged”.
With this in mind and to welcome bengal’s greatest autumn festival, Thori Si Khushi, went to a visit to SWA SHAKTI SHAKTI SADAN, in Asansol, an NGO run under the aegis of Jai Prakash Institute of Social Change
In the arms of compassion, every occupant of the centre finds hope. Every child deserves love, care, and a bright future-and with this motto in mind, all the occupants of the centre live together as mothers, sisters, daughters and friends. We could feel their feeling of belongingness and see the happiness on their faces. Every day, they strive to make a difference in the lives of each other through love, affection and care. The smile of the little girl on her mother’s lap brought a smile on our faces too, but what was more happy was to know that she will be reunited with her family in a day or two.

They had many more stories of Mamoni-who has been living there for 12 years and appeared for her class 10th boards, this year. She loves cooking and dancing and wants to stay there for the rest of her life. One of the inmates is happily married, another is reunited with her son. There are so many happy endings to cherish about, all because of the staff and police working tirelessly to rescue them.
We distributed things of personal hygiene as informed by them-Soap, toothpaste, hair oil, cleansing products, biscuits, sweets, etc. They were happy to showcase their talents-dancing, singing and embroidery works. It was a day to cherish as “tomorrow is an unknown future but today is a beautiful gift to be enjoyed”.

Let’s ensure every orphan or destitute has a reason to smile. It is not just a day on the calendar; it’s a day of reflection, action, and spreading awareness about the needs and rights of these underprivileged women and girls. As we celebrate the strength and resilience of Maa Durga, it’s imperative to extend our support and empathy to each and everyone.
“A day to remember, a day to act. Join the cause for these children, let’s be the voice, the hope, and the change. Let's spread the love.

However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up.

A visit to Asha Niketan was a life-changing experience as it was filled with emotions and sentiments. It was our maiden trip organised by “Thori Si Khushi”. We had an opportunity to visit and spend time with the most treasured and pure souls.
We wanted to celebrate the purest festival of *Raksha Bandhan* with them. Those children with special needs inspire a very, very special love. Anyone can give up; it is the easiest thing in the world to do- but Francis, Sukanto, Rahul…..proved it wrong. We tied rakhis and gave them small tiffin packets. The inmates of Asha Niketan were very happy in our company and few of them sang songs appropriate for the occasion.

As rightly said by one of them-*Raksha Bandhan* is not just between brothers and sisters, it can be celebrated with friends and those who care for them.
So more important is to enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.
