Day 6
Session 1: The day began with the drill practice. It was led by Sumati Barman.
Session 2: Awareness on 'Gender Equality'
Assistant Professor Chinmoy Sarkar, department of Sociology, KGTM, led the session. Mr. Sarkar spoke on the history behind the concept of gender equality and its significance. He interacted with the students on sustainable development and its relationship with gender equality. He emphasised on awareness, knowledge, and power that gender roles carry in shaping a better society and humanitarian presence. The value of education toward any awareness process was also the focal point of the session. It was an interactive session.
Session 3: Film screening by Cine Society, Siliguri
Shri Partha Pratim Mitra (prominent Theatrical figure) and Shri Pradip Nag (secretary, Cine Society,Siliguri) led the session.
Mr. Mitra elaborated on the history of cinema, from Russia to Hollywood to Indian cinema society. He spoke on shorts of film making process and emphasised on four major elements of cinema: scenario, set and site, shooting, and editing. In addition, he gave detailed account of various positioning of camera in film making, such as close-up, jump shoot, pan shoot etc. He gave examples of Sergei Eisenstein (Russian filmmaker) and his famous 'Battleship Potemkin', Tomás Gutiérrez Alea (Cuban filmmaker), Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen and Ritwik Ghatak ( Indian filmakers from Bengal). Mr. Mitra cited them as exemplary artists who experimented with theme, sound and structure of a film and doing so, they created media language for expression.
It was followed by the screening of a film by Mrinal Sen, ' _Padatik_ ' from 'Calcutta Trilogy'. The aim was to let the volunteers understand the basics of a good film and the role of an audience as viewers and critics.
