Day 6

Session 1: The day began with the drill practice. It was led by Sumati Barman.

Session 2: Awareness on 'Gender Equality'

Assistant Professor Chinmoy Sarkar, department of Sociology, KGTM, led the session. Mr. Sarkar spoke on the history behind the concept of gender equality and its significance. He interacted with the students on sustainable development and its relationship with gender equality. He emphasised on awareness, knowledge, and power that gender roles carry in shaping a better society and humanitarian presence. The value of education toward any awareness process was also the focal point of the session. It was an interactive session.

Session 3: Film screening by Cine Society, Siliguri

Shri Partha Pratim Mitra (prominent Theatrical figure) and Shri Pradip Nag (secretary, Cine Society,Siliguri) led the session.
Mr. Mitra elaborated on the history of cinema, from Russia to Hollywood to Indian cinema society. He spoke on shorts of film making process and emphasised on four major elements of cinema: scenario, set and site, shooting, and editing. In addition, he gave detailed account of various positioning of camera in film making, such as close-up, jump shoot, pan shoot etc. He gave examples of Sergei Eisenstein (Russian filmmaker) and his famous 'Battleship Potemkin', Tomás Gutiérrez Alea (Cuban filmmaker), Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen and Ritwik Ghatak ( Indian filmakers from Bengal). Mr. Mitra cited them as exemplary artists who experimented with theme, sound and structure of a film and doing so, they created media language for expression.

It was followed by the screening of a film by Mrinal Sen, ' _Padatik_ ' from 'Calcutta Trilogy'. The aim was to let the volunteers understand the basics of a good film and the role of an audience as viewers and critics.

*Session 1:* The day began with some drill practices and yoga.

*Session 2:* Awareness on 'Impact of Youth Power: Swami Vivekananda in discussion'

The session was led by Shri Goutam Biswas, journalist and a youth motivator, Ram Krishna Mission, Siliguri.
Mr. Biswas had an interactive discussion on the ideology of Swami Vivekananda. The aim was to instill and inspire our volunteers with the knowledge of youth power, if directed in the right way, has the ability to bring good changes in livelihoods.
Mr. Biswas distributed books on Swami Vivekananda to the volunteers. The books were in Hindi, Bangla and English languages.

*Session 3:* Awareness on the importance of Nature

As a post-celebration of Basanta Utsav, in today's session we had Shri Dinesh Chandra Biswas, an international nature poet. Mr. Dinesh C. Biswas delivered a lecture on the significant role that nature plays in maintaining the harmony in the human world, citing examples from across the world. It was followed by poetry recition.

*Session 4:* Plantation

Shri Dinesh Chandra Biswas donated plants to the Unit. Assisted by the volunteers, in the honorable presence of Shri Dinesh Chandra Biswas and Dr. Minakshi Chakraborty, Principal of Kalipada Ghosh Tarai Mahavidyalaya, the plantation programme was held. The NSS plantation programme aligns with two major agendas:
1. The post-celebration of Basanta Utsav
2. The college's journey toward 'Green Campus'

*Session 5:* Basanta Utsav

The celebration of the festival of colours, today, marks the arrival of spring in the campus and in lives. It was an honour that the NSS Unit could celebrate it with such an eminent nature poet, Shri Dinesh Chandra Biswas.

Today's sessions consisted of theory, practical, and colours.

Session 3: Free Eye Check Up by Lion's Club, Siliguri & Free Health Check Up by Galaxy Health Hospital Association, Bagdogra

The session was led by the eminent doctor for the eye check up, Dr. Subir Paul (Optometrist). He was assisted by Mr. Ratan Das (medicine and glass department) and Ms. Subhomoyee Ghosh ( Registration desk).
A total of *89* beneficiaries have been recorded for the eye check up today.

Session 5: First Aid Training

Shri Subrata Dasgupta and Shri Rupankar Nandi, trainers of St. John's Ambulance Association, Siliguri, led the session.

Shri Subrata Dasgupta briefed on the history of First Aid and its benefit as the first step of health care in times of crisis.
Shri Rupankar Nandi trained the volunteers on various First Aids such as CPR, bandaging, burning, and sprains. The session comprised of both theory and practicals.

Session 3: Importance of Blood Donation

Shri Pranab Kumar Ghosh (Secretary, S. N. E. H. A Siliguri) and Shri Sanjay Chakraborty (member S. N. E. H. A Siliguri) led the session on blood donation.
Shri Sanjay Chakraborty informed about the history of blood donation as a practice in the world and India specifically. He delved into the history of blood group classification and the causes behind.

Shri Pranab Kumar Ghosh interacted with the volunteers on the basics of blood donation Dos and Don'ts. He emphasised on health related issues and causes that are beneficial in blood donation. This interactive session aimed at encouraging volunteers to spread the information about the importance of blood donation and to donate blood whenever required as an NSS volunteer.

Session 2: It was graced by Prof. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Mandal, Programme Coordinator, NSS, University of North Bengal. Dr. Mandal emphasised on the important roles of NSS as a body for the upliftment of society. He stressed on maintaining basic civic sense for the betterment of the self and society at large. He guided the gathering through his experience and wisdom. Dr. Mandal encouraged the volunteers to participate in NSS activities to enhance skills. He informed the volunteers about various skill based programmes and projects that they can opt for through My Bharat and NSS platforms.

The session focused on a wide range of functions of NSS.
