*Mega Awareness Event in Bandipora Illuminates the Role of SAKHI -One Stop Centre, Bandipora*
Bandipora, September 09: In a remarkable display of community engagement and awareness, the One Stop Centre (OSC) in Bandipora recently took centre stage at a mega event organized by the Jammu & Kashmir Women's Development Corporation and sponsored by the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation, Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India. The event, hosted at the District Drug De-Addiction Centre in Bandipora, witnessed a massive turnout comprising women, men, and youth, along with a diverse spectrum of stakeholders.
The event took place at the District Drug De-Addiction Centre, Bandipora and drew a massive gathering of participants from diverse backgrounds, including women, men, and youth, as well as government officials, civil societies, citizens, and the public.
The event witnessed the convergence of individuals from various sectors, including officials from the District Drug De-Addiction Centre (DDAC), One Stop Centre (OSC), Senior Citizen Home (SrCH), Jammu & Kashmir Students Welfare Mission (JKSWM), Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF), Health and Officials from Social Welfare Department, Bandipora.
Miss Mehnaza Rasool, Case Worker, One Stop Centre, Bandipora, played a pivotal role in enlightening the audience about the functions and services offered by the OSC. Her detailed presentation shed light on the OSC's mission to provide a safe and supportive environment for victims of violence, particularly women, and offer a wide range of services, including legal, medical, and psychological support.
Additionally, Miss Afshana Hassan, a dedicated Counselor at OSC, provided valuable insights into the day-to-day functioning of the OSC. Her deliberation highlighted the importance of counseling and emotional support in helping survivors regain their confidence and rebuild their lives.
The mega awareness event served as a crucial platform to inform and educate the community about the OSC's essential role in addressing gender-based violence and empowering victims to seek assistance without fear or stigma.
This event, graced by a diverse audience, underscored the commitment of the Jammu & Kashmir Women's Development Corporation and the support of the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation, Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, in promoting the cause of women's welfare and empowerment. Under Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India Shri Lalit Grover today paid a surprise visit to SAKHI One Stop Centre (OSC) Bandipora.
The purpose of the visit was to took review and evaluate the center's operations and functionality and to took review of its functioning.
Shri Grover expressed his admiration for the newly constructed OSC building and commended the dedication and hard work of the centre's staff members. He was particularly impressed with the efficient functioning of the staff and the seamless coordination between the One Stop Centre Bandipora and the District Administration of Bandipora through Department of Social Welfare Bandipora.

Gurez, August 03: In an endeavor to tackle the pressing issue of domestic violence, SAKHI One Stop Centre (OSC) Bandipora, in collaboration with District Administration Bandipora and Implementing Agency - JKSWM kickstarted a highly impactful 3 Days' Mega Awareness Campaign at boarder area Gurez of District Bandipora. The event witnessed door to door awareness at various panchayats of Gurez and witnessed an enthusiastic gathering of participants from the region, who joined forces to learn about domestic violence and the services offered by SAKHI One Stop Centre, Bandipora to assist survivors.
Under the esteemed leadership of Chairman, DMC,OSC/Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmed, IAS and the noble supervision of District Social Welfare Officer Bandipora, Mr. Hidayatullah, JKAS, the awareness campaign sought to empower individuals with knowledge and encourage them to stand against domestic abuse.
Distinguished speakers, Miss Afshana Haasan, Counsellor at OSC, and Miss Jameela Akhter, Case Worker at OSC, took the stage to address the audience. They highlighted the various forms of domestic violence and the profound impact it has on victims. Moreover, they shed light on the range of legal, medical, police and other support services offered by SAKHI One Stop Centre Bandipora to assist and empower survivors.
The campaign, headed by Miss Ishrat Ayoub, Centre Administrator, OSC, emphasized the urgency of societal change and the need for collective efforts to combat this social menace effectively. Miss Afshana Haasan and Miss Jameela Akhter urged the community to join hands in the battle against domestic violence and create a safe and supportive environment for survivors.
As part of the outreach initiatives, Sakhi One Stop Centre conducted door-to-door awareness campaigns in Gurez, distributing informative posters and pamphlets highlighting the various aspects of OSC and the facilities and services available at Sakhi Bandipora. The efforts of the OSC staff, primarily comprising females, were hailed by the local community as they traveled from village to village and panchayat to panchayat, tirelessly raising awareness about domestic violence.
Furthermore, under the aegis of OSC Implementing Agency - J&K Students Welfare Mission, SAKHI Charcha sessions were conducted at local shops and homes, encouraging open dialogues about domestic violence and its prevention. These sessions provided a safe s**ce for discussions and allowed community members to voice their concerns and seek support.
The Mega Awareness Campaign of SAKHI Bandipora received overwhelming support from the locals, and the impact of the campaign is expected to have a lasting effect on the community's perspective towards domestic violence. It is hoped that such initiatives will pave the way for positive change and lead to a safer and more secure environment for all individuals in the region.

Bandipora, July 27: SAKHI ONE STOP CENTRE (OSC) Bandipora, in association with District Administration Bandipora, organized a Mega Awareness Programme at Govt Degree College Gurez, shedding light on the crucial issue of domestic violence. The event, held under the esteemed leadership of Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmed, IAS and the noble supervision of District Social Welfare Officer Bandipora, Mr. Hidayatullah, JKAS, saw an enthusiastic full gathering of participants from the region. Distinguished speakers, including Miss Afshana Haasan, Counsellor at OSC, and Miss Jameela Akhter, Case Worker at OSC, addressed the audience, spreading awareness about domestic violence and the services offered at SAKHI ONE STOP CENTRE.

OSC has emerged as a beacon of hope for survivors of domestic violence, providing them with a safe s**ce to seek assistance, legal aid, counseling, and rehabilitation. The OSC team is committed to empowering survivors and facilitating their journey towards healing and justice.
A special vote of thanks was extended to the District Administration Bandipora, the Implementing Agency- JKSWM, and the Principal of Govt Degree College Gurez for their wholehearted support in making the Mega Awareness Programme a resounding success.
It is pertinent to mention that in 2022, SAKHI OSC Bandipora published a comprehensive research study on domestic violence, which was released by Shri Ram Das Athawale Ji, Minister of State, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The study sheds light on the prevalence and impact of domestic violence in the region and underscores the need for sustained efforts to address this pressing social issue
OSC shared vital statistics highlighting their commitment to supporting survivors of domestic violence. Till date, in a mere time of 2 and half years, a total of 358 cases were registered at OSC, out of which 292 cases have been successfully resolved, showcasing the center's effectiveness in providing assistance and relief to survivors.

Bandipora, June 23: Commissioner Secretary Social Welfare Department, Jammu and Kashmir, Ms Sheetal Nanda on Friday visited the Bandipora district
and inspected One Stop Center (OSC) in the premises of District Hospital Bandipora and Child Care Institute and Cradle Baby Reception Centre, Sonerwani, Bandipora.
She took stock of the facilities being made available at One Stop Centre and the shelter home and also reviewed its functioning.
She was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad, District Programme Officer Bandipora Mohd Ashraf Hakak, Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, Tehsildar Bandipora and officers of social welfare department.
On the occasion the commissioner secretary was informed about the functioning of the centre and the assistance provided by the centre to the women till date.
On the occasion, Sheetal Nanda also reviewed the functioning of District Hub for Empowerment of Women in Bandipora (Erstwhile Mahila Shakti Kendra).
Gender Specialist Aisha Shafi informed the commissioner secretary about the performance of the hub.
She informed that they are regularly interacting with women and facilitate them in availing the benefit of various schemes. She said they have referred 13 cases of females to Sheep Husbandry Department for establishment income generation units.
She said the Hub has also referred 40 girls for skill development at RSETI under Beti Bachav Beti Padav scheme.
Besides this, the hub has also recommended 25 children from 0-10 age group for opening Sukanaya Samridhi Accounts in Post Office wherein they are being given 8 percent interest on savings.
Commissioner Secretary was also informed about the infrastructure development going on in the district, including recent construction of Tribal hostel, etc.
Sheetal instructed for creating mass awareness among the people regarding various welfare measures being implemented and provided through ICPS.
Sheetal directed for taking out Child Protection Services in the district to the next level, which will act as a boon for all the children of the district in particular and UT in general.

Bandipora, April 06: A warm welcome was accorded to Mr. Shabir Ahmad Wani (JKAS) by SAKHI - One Stop Centre Bandipora on assuming charge as Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Bandipora. Mr. Shabir was cordially extended warm welcome by SAKHI - One Stop Centre Bandipora by presenting welcome flowers and an official welcome note to him in presence of other officers and officials of the administration.
Miss Ishrat Ayoub, Centre Administrator, OSC Bandipora said that it is pleasure and privilege to extend our greetings and warm welcome to Mr. Shabir Ahmad Wani (JKAS), a young dynamic officer for taking over charge as district head of the Revenue Department, which is meant fully for the welfare means of public. BANDIPORA: District Administration Bandipora in collaboration with Mission Vatsalya, OSC, CCI Boys/Girls, Old Age home, DDAC and Health department on Tuesday organized a day long programme in connection with World Syndrome Day.
The event was attended by many dignitaries besides officials of aforesaid departments.
On the occasion, besides other speakers, District Child Protection Unit officialsBandipora, Doctors spoke at the length regarding the need of awareness about this particular day and its essence.
Moreover, in connection with the World Syndrome Day different activities viz Painting etc were held in Child care institutions across the district.
As part of the programme different official buildings including DC Office were lightened up with yellow lights.
Every year, March 21 is observed as the World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD). The United Nations General Assembly adopted March 21 as World Down Syndrome Day in 2012. The day is celebrated in an effort to raise awareness about Down syndrome and to advocate for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of people with Down syndrome.

SAKHI - OSC Bandipora celebrates International Women's Day
Bandipora, March 08: SAKHI - One Stop Centre, Bandipora in collaboration with District Administration Bandipora on Tuesday organised a day long function to celebrate International Women Day with an aim to sensitize masses regarding the importance of women and women rights here in Bandipora at Conference Hall, District De-Addiction Centre DDAC, Bandipora.
The programme was organised by MISSION SHAKTI SAKHI - One Stop Centre, Bandipora & District Hub for Empowerment of Women Bandipora under the noble supervision of District Social Welfare Officer, Bandipora in collaboration with District Administration Bandipora.
The programme was attended by Officials from various departments like Education, Mission SHAKTI, Mission Vatsalaya, POSHAN, DHEW, OSC, CWC, CCI, ICDS etc, Members of Women’s Committee, Members of JKSWM, BBBP, teachers, Girl students from various educational institutions of the district, female employees and local women of the district.
On the occasion, Ms Malik Tabinda, Protection Officer, DCPU, Bandipora said that the female folk must realise their importance and role in society. She said the women who have achieved success in various fields of life must act as ambassadors to guide other women to utilise their potential in a proper way. She has presented detailed information about various rights of women and laws enacted by the government.
Miss Sumaya Muzaffar, Gender Specialist, District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Bandipora while highlighting the importance of International Women's Day said girls and women are important stakeholders of society and it is our collective responsibility to take care of girl child for the empowerment of women. Sumaya has informed the audience about various women centric schemes being implemented by the government.
While speaking on the occasion, Mr. Jawahar Ahmad, Supervisor, DDAC Bandipora highlighted the objectives of the programme and said we must encourage girls and women for socio, economic and political development of society.
On the said occasion, Miss Afshana Hassan, Psycho-Social Counselor, One Stop Centre, Bandipora deliberated that every year on 8th March, the International Women's Day celebrated.
Afshana said International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality. This year, under the theme, “Embrace The Equity.”, let’s seize the opportunity to reimagine a better world inspired by wonderful women – energized and recognised, counted and invested in. As women worldwide assert their power as change-makers, International Women's Day 2023 will focus on their demands to “Live free from gender-based violence, harmful practices, Learn new skills towards the futures they choose and Lead as a generation of activists accelerating social change.
Jameela Akhter, Case Worker, OSC on the occasion, said “We at Sakhi One Stop Centre Bandipora are regularly dealing with women issues , most of them constitute violence based cases and some gender inequality besides cyber crime and other assault cases. Every violence based case seems similar to a common person but when we analyze these no one violence based case is same. "Every case has a different story and every issue has different faces. Though these cases seem similar but the level of violence and the way of the assailant, tells different stories. One gets shocked at learning, to what extent our society has degraded itself!” She added.
While highlighting the activities/ functioning of SAKHI - One Stop Centre, Bandipora under MISSION SHAKTI, Miss Ishrat Ayoub, Centre Administrator, OSC, Bandipora, said several awareness programmes and women centric sensitization workshops were held this year by District Administration and other line departments besides distributing pamphlets and holding several activities to sensitize the people about gender equality. Ishrat while highlighting the role of OSC Bandipora said that since 2020 till date OSC Bandipora has registered 302 cases of DV, out of which 244 have been successfully and satisfactorily solved, 58 are under process, 6 FIR's have been lodged, 10 women victims including a non local woman have been provided sufficient shelter with all facilities whereas more than 276 awareness programmes at various areas of the district have been organized by OSC Bandipora. She said "Many citations and awards at District Level have been awarded to by OSC till date for its performance and last year on International Women's Day 2022 at Tagore Hall, Srinagar, One Stop Centre, Bandipora has been awarded with UT Level Best Performance Award by District Social Welfare Department, Govt. Of India through the auspicious hands of worthy Advisor to LG, J&K, Shri Farooq Ah. Khan, (IPS) in presence of Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Shri P. K. Pole, IAS and Mission Director, ICDS, Ms Shabnum Shah Kamili (JKAS)."
During the said event, many speakers enumerated different topics related to International Women's Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Miss Sameena Shafi, DDAC said "The success or failure of women related a strategy at the gross-root level depends upon the active participation in decision making process." "If the goal of women equality has to be achieved, people's especially women participation is a pre-requisite for it” she added to his speech as concluding remarks.
A warm vote of thanks to all the participants and to the District Administration Bandipora was presented by Miss Nighat Nageen, Coordinator, DDAC, Bandipora in a beautiful cordial manner, who also mentioned the worth role and support by its Implementing Agency - JKSWM, while as the entire program was hosted as Dice In charge by Miss Mehnaza Rasool, CW, OSC Bandipora with her beautiful and soothing anchoring.
During, the said programme, baby kits were also distributed among various lactating women of the district. The programme was highly appreciated and lauded by all the participants, who hope that with the vision and mission of District Administration, Bandipora about women related issues, the women really see a new horizon of hope – Embrace the Equity.
